"Gramma," Silver repeated. "Never heard of it." His expression shadowed. "It would be a good thing is the police were around, then, rather than the opposite, wouldn't it?" He sighed, deeply. "At least she's with you now. You let me know if anyone comes around."
Silver shook his head slowly. He needed to take pressure off his back, or standing was going to be difficult, and he still needed to call a cab back to where he was staying. He didn't pretend a smile, so the small one he had for her was in earnest. "I'm tired." This was true. "I think I'd rather not be here given current company--not you, of course." His hand lifted from the area of her shoulder and side. He touched the back of his knuckles to her cheek just at the edge of her chin in a fleeting gesture of affection, and then put his glass down on the bar.
