Death was a bit of a preoccupation in the past, and when his father passed away he had become comfortable with it. It was only natural, he surmised, for someone who couldn't go back to his home country, with rather warped ideas of what they might do to him if he showed his face in a Russian airport.
But this was a little too close for comfort. And the fact that he couldn't remember much of what happened only served to let his imagination and creativity run wild with what might have transpired in those hours he lost.
"Don't say that. It wasn't you. And at least you weren't there." He slipped his arms around her and pulled her in close for a brief, gentle hug, biting down on his bottom lip when his body protested at moving around so much.
