Re: In the Security Room
Oh yes, Jason was infuriated. He knew she had to know what sort of effect this all had on him, and he couldn't wait to get his hands on her once all this was over. He would make up for this, all of it. Jack's objections mattered about as much as Bruce's did. Ivy had just shot to the top of his priorities list, and when he had his shot, he would take it.
Jack reached halfway up to grab her wrist, until he realized that all she was doing was scraping the paint away. By then it was clear she'd already recognized him, too late to stop it. He tracked her shock and amusement at Brielle's terrible mistake of thinking him a nice guy. He wasn't that, no. Or, oddly enough, perhaps he was - kind, just not good all through.
"No," he said, frankly. "I'm not." Perhaps that was the strangest thing about the sharp distinction between the face he showed most of the time and the one the people he hunted saw. Face paint aside, the delineation was so harsh that it rendered him nearly unrecognizable. Well, if Brielle hadn't put together who he was already, she would have now, if she was watching. There was no point in pretending he didn't know who she was talking about, either. They all knew each other, one wide circle of bad connections.
The question remained, then, why he'd helped Brielle, if he was here with a gun and he had Jason in his head aiming to kill her at his first opportunity. "I don't share the Hood's preference for shooting first and not asking questions. Especially not here, when someone innocent might suffer."
His fingers traced an inch around the outside edge of her healing bullet wound. It hadn't been a game, getting her to Wren for help, or a sick ploy. He would have helped her regardless, but after he'd seen her, bleeding and scared from a wound Jason had cuased, he'd felt real guilt. How he felt about Brielle as a person after the revelations of the last week was neither here nor there. He'd side with Wren in that fight, at the end of the day. That still didn't mean she deserved to be hurt.
