Re: At the Roulette Wheels
"No," he said, with a flicker of a smile, "Though that's a common assumption." It didn't annoy him that she stayed on the table, nor did it surprise him, but he didn't lower the gun. He wasn't going to end up as one more lovelorn figure wandering around the casino floor, and he intended to keep a distance from her unless absolutely necessary.
"I'm looking for the staff," he said. "I heard none of them made it out. I don't know where you're keeping them, but personally, I think they deserve to go home right about now." He glanced around at the guards. "I'd suggest the same for them, but I assume securing their freedom will be a little more difficult. I don't honestly believe that I can force you to give them an antidote, but I can suggest that it would be appreciated. I think you're perfectly capable of holding this casino on you own, just the three of you, without these people. They have nothing to do with this, but there might be people they'd be trying to help get away from the chaos right about now if they weren't here."
His tone was calm, conversational, and easy, as if he wasn't holding a gun between them. Indeed, the gun seemed more for his own protection than a physical threat against her. Jack had never found it easy to use force on a woman, even a woman like this one, but he kept her history of murder, which Jason was practically shouting at him about, in mind.
