Luke had left hours ago to allow Bruce some time in Gotham, and Iris had settled in to spend time with Gus. They'd had dinner, played a bit, and then had settled in to watch a video before getting him ready for bed. He'd settled easily enough, and though she'd been doing her best to be just his nanny, she returned the tight hug he gave her as she tucked him in. Things had been quiet since then, Iris puttering a bit around the apartment to pick up before she eased down into a chair to read, tv on almost silently in the background. It was low enough for her to hear any sound Gus might make, since Luke had let her know about the possibility of nightmares.
It wasn't Gus that caught her attention though, but an insistent flashing on a panel that she'd been told linked to a security system. Not an audible alarm, but a notification. It wasn't something she'd expected to see, but she knew what it meant, and she was off the couch in an instant, headed for Gus' room. She'd kept the door cracked enough that even though the hall was dark, light filtered in from the living room, and through the opening she could feel the movement of a breeze from outside. Her stomach dropped to her feet, and Alfred impressed the need for caution, but something had to be done. She stood to the side and slowly pushed the door open a few more inches, peering in as best she could, searching for anything in the glow of Gus' nightlight.
