Re: first class - baths
He brought one spindly hand to his chest, where his heart should have been, and splayed his fingers out over the fabric. A dramatic gesture to be sure, but one which suited him. "It's expected of me," he said. Yes, that sounded right. "Sometimes things don't need to be said for them to be known." That sounded right too. Jack wouldn't have made a very good B-Man, no, not as he was now, but in that other life he might have liked to take on that role. Didn't everyone, after all, want to be Batman or someone like him? But he wasn't one for scowling, and his version of scary didn't quite match up with the brooding, hulking hero. "The Mayor wouldn't like chaos," he said, doubtfully, but maybe the Mayor needed to try new things too. Maybe everyone did. "I like... well, I like..." That was a good question. Beyond what he was supposed to do, what he was meant to do, there had to be something. "I like fixing things," he settled upon, and while he didn't sound entirely certain, well, it felt more right than scaring people did.
Doctors were smart, yes, and he was certainly no doctor, so he nodded. He didn't think himself particularly smart but it had never really bothered him. "Exactly! Being different is exciting," he said, enthusiastic. "And I'm sure that's not true. Everyone is something special." The mention of Sally made him pause again, because he was having difficulty pinpointing who she was supposed to be. It was all a bit of a blur. "Yes, Sally's special," he said, slowly, "but she's not the only special one." Or something. Sigh.
Slowly, Jack shook his head. "I don't think they would be mad. Maybe they might. I don't think they'd understand," he explained sadly, but the prospect of a Sally cheered him up, at least a little. It was something else to focus on, something that didn't involve disappointing people. He still wasn't sure finding a Sally would be so easy, but she was so very enthused about it and he watched her backflips with a widening grin. "Thank you," he said cheerfully, wading out of the water without much care for his waterlogged clothes. "If you like, after we find my Sally, we can find you a Mister J." If she was going to help him, it was only right that he did the same.
