When her paws left his back, giving him a moment to rest against all that was happening, the angel took a deep, shuddering breath, curling more in against himself as though it would protect him, this position. The remaining wing fluttered, stretched to its full size briefly before folding against his back, the muscles beneath his skin moving and shifting on the other side though there was no wing left to manipulate. It made him feel uneven, half-there, and that feeling was terrifying.
He said not a single word more until she growled at him, came closer with hands and rank breath instead of fur and claws, and yes, he did flinch away as her hand came to rest upon the side of his neck. Pulse fluttering beneath her fingers, he lifted his head slightly, one brown eye peeking out towards her. "I don't know," he confesse, the word full of despair. "You have already destroyed one.
