He should have pulled away. This was weakness, letting the woman put her arms around him, taking and giving comfort like he was a thing that knew how. Sex was one thing; it could be purely physical, entirely detached from any ties that ran beneath the surface. But this, this was something else. He nuzzled against her jaw, thoughts of the pack he fought so very hard to forget resurfacing all over again.
"They left me." It was as much a whisper as a wolf could give, and while the truth might have been little more complicated than that, it was all very simple in his mind. Thinking about it made him sad, and he didn't like being sad. He growled, and he pulled back, away, to free himself from the woman's embrace. "I am better without them. Stronger. Nothing can hurt me, and I fear nothing," he insisted, all stubborn pride.
