Jamie laughed at the hobbits, talking of their rabbit stew. Their innocence was amazing, almost baffling to Madrox, who had seen how cold and cruel people could be. Perhaps they had too. He was unsure of how the war had affected them, or if the war had taken place yet. He would ask over a pipe once they got settled. "I can't make rabbit stew, but I barbecue. I will make you huge burgers when we get to the RV. We might need to go to the store, but a cookout sounds great."
"New York and New Mexico are states, like we are in the state of Nevada right now. There is nothing new about them really, at least not now. They were new when they were named." He may have to resort to some pretty simple explanations here, including the ones about his powers. "I don't have any of my abilities either. Mine is pretty unusual." Great, he opened the can of worms.
The exit off of the highway came up, and he turned, hoping his memory served correctly. He was happy when Target came into view. "Here's the store, or a market. We can buy some clothes here. Before we go in, add up the numbers on the green papers. They are called dollars, and they buy things. Those cards will do a lot of good, Sam. Don't go crazy. Your Miss Eleanor will have to pay for it later with the green paper. Mister Cael doesn't have a lot of green paper, but there may actually be more at the RV." Jamie wasn't too worried yet, although the kid's taste was pretty far from his own.
