There were very few things Pepper knew to be absolutely true. Two plus two would always equal four; The sun will always rise in the east and set in the west; Tony Stark would not make her life easy. She'd handed him all the paperwork and she wasn't surprised that there were new entries to his will when it was read. Not at all. She took care of what needed to be done, the press release, funeral arrangements, and the card for Bruce Wayne. She'd deal with the DC Door, but later. Once she had her head on straight and wouldn't go after them like a teenager, basing words and actions on emotions alone, she'd have words with them and how not okay it was to put another world in danger, no matter how friendly people were. She did explain the situation to Justine as best she could, to ensure she wouldn't go after the DC Door's occupants. It wasn't their fault something had happened. It wasn't Tony's fault either. It just was and they needed to accept that. Blaming people wouldn't do any good at all. They just needed time to heal and at that moment, Pepper was wishing she'd stipulated a year and not six months, particularly after following the key card to a broom closet on the fifth floor. If you go through this door, make sure you leave the company in safer hands. And get a good insurance plan. It's a prototype. I love you. - Tony He never made it easy for her. Pepper didn't go through the door, not just yet. She knew, if she did, there would be no turning back. Accepting whatever was behind that door - and she was trying not to think too much about it - meant giving up the company and accepting that he was gone. She didn't know how much time she spent down there, crying over three little words and yelling at him for not telling her sooner. It took her some time, but she calmed down and wiped the tears away. She'd get through this, eventually. She just needed time. |
