Where: Sophie's apartment
When: Recently
What: Finding a dead body, character outro
Warnings: Dead body
"Sophie?"
Sadie's voice called as her keys jingled in the lock and she swung the door open to a quiet, dark apartment. Even though she had moved out months ago, Sadie hadn't given up her key and now that the two girls were trying to make amends, she thought to visit to talk Sophie into going to Tahoe with her. Gotham was controlling her life, her boyfriend, her former best friend and she was tired of it. Maybe if Sophie and Sadie left now, they could avoid the plague all together. Maybe even lose those Arkham men in the process. As much as she liked Eddie, he had a way of taking over her life. Since he arrived in her brain she stopped going to school, partied too much and would spend whole weeks through the door if he asked her to. Enough was enough.
Now who's the coward?
Sadie moved deeper into the apartment, fear suddenly sweeping over her like someone opened a window. Something wasn't right here, but she prayed that it was just her nerves crashing down on her. "Sophie?" Another call for her former best friend, groping at the darkness for a light switch or a lamp before her foot hit something soft with a gentle thump. She looked down and suddenly the stench of a dead body hit her hard and fast. Eddie knew that smell, even if Sadie never did before now.
She stumbled back, crashing into the wall and frantically searching for a lightswitch. Click.
"Sophie." Sadie was already crying, even if she didn't realize it yet. A stream of tears down her face and a pounding guilt in her chest. She knew Crane had something to do with this, but if Sadie could have kept her roommate safe, none of this would have happened. This- which would be exactly the same thing that was going to happen to Jonah. Sadie crumbled against the wall, holding her face as she sobbed in the quiet of their once happy little apartment. Gotham had killed her friend. Gotham was going to kill her, too.
It didn't take long for her to make up her mind. She called the police from Sophie's phone, she grabbed a couple pieces of her jewelry as a reminder to never come back and ran out that door as fast as she could. Eddie had won her enough cash to get her anywhere she wanted, but Sadie just wanted to go back home to her parents. She wanted something normal.
