Re: Main Street
“Like you said, he’s got bigger problems. I don’t think he even knows about Joker venom yet. I’ll let him know after the holidays.” Steph didn’t want to talk about business or think about it either, and she waved her hands dismissively. Why was she still even investigating all of this? She hung up the cowl for a reason. But, whatever, that didn’t matter at the moment, not when he looked at her like that and made her heart race in such a way. She felt like a teenage girl, more so than usual, and all of this reminded her of her relationship with Tim. All those overwhelming feelings coming at her at once.
She leaned back, her hip grazing against his side while her dressed snuck up her thighs, and she rolled her eyes playfully. “I’m allowed to ask now and then, too,” she said with a wide smirk to match his own sly look. Her expression softened for just a moment when he explained why he was smiling, but it slipped right back at his tease. “Oh yeah? Is it worth it?”
Eddie swept a look down her legs and across where the hemline of her dress stopped before playing it off like he was just taking a long time to look at the fire in front of them. “Well let’s see.” He rolled over a little so he was on his side, his tie hanging to loosely touch the rug they were laying on. “You’re terrible at puzzles. I’m honestly surprised you managed to get your Christmas present opened. Thrilled, but surprised.” Eddie grinned and gave a small shrug. “Your biceps are larger than mine. You killed my computer. You called my Cheetos sandwich gross. You were so bad at Oregon Trail you made me put in cheat codes. Made me.” He emphasised because that last part was untrue, but it was still fun to pretend otherwise.
He sat up, his once perfectly combed back hair now disheveled from all the “fun” they had at this party. His suit a little crumpled and creased where he fell against Arkham’s wall or held her in his arms. She had seen him in his pajamas, but he had intended to look dapper as all hell tonight. Maybe talk her into a dance or two (even though he suspected she was terrible at it) and chat somewhere the birds and bat couldn’t find them. She had apparently expected the same, she had to dressing up like that. And, Eddie liked to think it was for him. Despite that, this was nice. A strange quiet in the chaos that raged outside of this fictional Gotham where she and the rest of the Bats had fallen because he wasn’t there to catch her. Eddie put his hand on the floor next to her side to prop himself up so he could look down at her. “But, I think I can look over those small details since I like to think I’m a big mess of trouble, too.”
She pulled a face as he rattled off her faults, rolling her eyes now and then, but smiling all the same. Of course, he could pinpoint every single one of her flaws; their rivalry depending on each other knowing weaknesses. “You know,” she said with a faux-frown, “you’re supposed to say all the good things about me. Like how pretty I look for you tonight, and how impressive my take down was in that cell room earlier. Not rag on how I can’t solve your riddles. That’s what happens in all the high school movies, y’know. After the huge house party, of course.” Steph stuck her tongue out at him like a defiant child, but it was all in jest. “And I did not make you cheat! You hijacked the computer and put it in before it was taken from this world.” She wiggled her fingers for dramatic effect, amusement all over her face. “You know, it’s probably karma for using cheat codes. Plus,” she paused for a second, grabbing the pendant resting on her chest and rubbing it between her thumb and index finger. “I got a pretty sweet necklace out of it all anyway.”
