"I would like that so very much," Legolas said, and he pressed his hand to his breast, bowing slightly. "I have often wondered what your Shire is like, and now, it seems, I might have the chance to see it after all." He paused, thoughtfully. Would it matter if he was seen amongst the Hobbits? Would his presence in the Shire, two years before the quest, change something? Would it cause too much commotion and unexpected problems? He wished Aragorn was here, suddenly -- Aragorn would know what to do. He knew the most about this kind of thing.
I've seen time-travel films. Don't tell anybody about their important destiny, or the thing they have to do in 2 years, and you should be good, Malcolm offered helpfully.
Very helpful, Legolas decided wryly. Very helpful, indeed.
