Who: Misfit
What: Reveal.
Where: Passages hotel.
Warnings/Rating: Some swearing.
The reaper never received a response from the strange man who welcomed his presence. While he welcomed the shadows, the darkness that crept in unannounced was something else entirely, thick and suffocating, pulling him down, down, down to finally meet his fate. He tried to scream, but all that came out was a hoarse rasp, and the hands of all those he'd damned were too strong to fight.
Time to face who you are, a voice whispered, cruel and mocking, and for the first time the reaper felt fear.
Then, with a violent suddenness, the reaper was gone, and in his place was the man who truly lurked beneath his mask, clad in pajama pants and shirtless in the middle of the hotel's hallway. Details of the night came back slowly, in bits and pieces, and he cursed each new revelation. He'd come to Passages expecting to cross the door into Gotham, not to be transported to some fucking masquerade where everyone was something else, and his natural reaction to such a situation was anger. He didn't want to think about the significance of what he'd been, but truthfully, Luke wasn't the least bit surprised. Of course he ended up as some kind of death bringer, judging the unworthy and ensuring they were properly punished. He knew what he was, after all, and he didn't pretend he was anything else. Beneath the silly Halloween costume, he was something terrible, something insatiable, and he was very aware of that reality.
Maybe he didn't like it, and maybe that wasn't what he wanted to be anymore, but he was what he was, and tonight merely proved it.
Luke stalked out of the hotel, ignoring the message that appeared on his phone's screen in favor of calling a cab. Bruce was, thankfully, keeping quiet, and as he waited for a ride home he thought of the redheaded woman, stupid enough to think he was something good, and the man near the lake. He had no intention of finding either of them. What was the point? It was bullshit, all of it, and he just wanted to go home and try to forget the night had ever happened.
