The hotel was a dark place when he finally came to, his entire body an ache with all that had happened, pieces of which were still filtering through to him. There was no inclination to move, to do anything but lay where he had regained consciousness at, hands folded over his stomach, eyes fixed on a place far beyond the ceiling overhead. There were several questions going through his mind when he dared to think on what had happened, the biggest being who he had been with. Who had wrung the life from him as though it mattered little, because with everything that was going on in Vegas as of late, that was something he was legitimately afraid of, that pesky dying thing. Lives were too fragile, and though some people might have used the phrase ‘you only live once’ as permission to go crazy, to throw caution to the wind and jump from planes and bridges, he saw it as something to keep in mind when approaching situations. You only live once, so tread carefully. Every step could be your last.
The simple fact that he still breathed, still felt his heart beating in the confines of his chest, that said a lot about the sort of nonsense that the hotel was throwing at them. He shouldn’t be here, he should have been a body to recover and nothing more, yet something in the hotel, some sick sense of humor in whatever it was, saw that he was still alive and mostly whole.
It was some time before he roused himself from the floor, hands braced behind him, waiting for the wave of dizziness that threatened to overwhelm to pass. His stomach growled, a testament to how long he had been laying there, but food was the last thing on his mind right then. He needed to find some place to think, to be alone with all the thoughts going through his head. This hotel might have given them something like a cat’s nine lives, but he had no inclination to waste the one that he was currently living. So he got up to his feet, paused, let himself find his balance once more, and then with the dust and dirt that littered the hallways of the hotel clinging to his backside, he made his way out of the hotel and to the city streets.
His first inclination was to go home. Home was safe, secure, comfortable - until he remembered that home included a roommate who was hardly there, that could walk in on him without notice, and something even more devious in certain parties that knew where he lived. He had no desire to deal with that right then, so he did the next best thing. His wallet was checked for his credit cards, and after walking several blocks away from the hotel to avoid being spotted, he hailed a cab to take him away from this place.
There were several steps on his journey, the first at a electronics store where he purchased the first laptop his eyes lay on. The second was at a grocery store, energy drinks, chips, essentials. And finally, he let the cab drop him off at the Wynn, tipped generously, and then took himself and his purchases in to get a room. Someplace high, someplace where no one would notice him.
He was moving on auto pilot until the door closed behind him, and then Liam dropped his purchases to the ground at his feet, fell back against the door, and slumped down with his head in his hands, trying to resist the urge to throw up the little that was in his stomach. Death and sex and everything inbetween; it was a nightmare he wanted to escape from. Some time later, he grabbed the box containing the laptop, crawled over to the nearest outlet, and that was where he settled, laptop balanced on his knees, fingers flying over the brand new keys, finding his escape with words.
