Foyer; seated near the edge
The world was made up of decisions to be made, and if they had been in full control of their world, the decision to not attend would have been made. Parties were not their style, their desire or want, but feet did not seem to want to listen, nor lips want to obey. The cab arrived, the location uttered, and they sat back in the vinyl-covered seat as the lights of the city moved past in a blur, making little impression other than lights and vague shapes that did not hold.
The cab stopped, ample time given to exit, fare paid, and they stared up at the building for the longest time as though there was the ability to leave. It was useless to resist, they knew, so why fight? Why struggle? Giving in was easier, even if it was quite unwanted, so they moved forward, standing just outside the threshold to the hotel, taking the opportunity to look within to the changed building. Gold and gilt surfaces, opulence and class. It was a world so very different from Las Vegas, both full of extravagance and grand gestures, but existing on two different ends of the spectrum. There was again a moment of hesitation, of a desire to turn around and leave, but feet carried them forward and across the threshold to that different world.
One step over, two steps over, and unsteady steps carried him forward. Pale skin garbed in simple cotton clothes, the stitches large but even, the clothing plain but well-fitted to the slender form. Joint lines were visible at ankles and neck, strings trailing down from where they were attached to various points on his form. He didn't seem conscious of them, however, steps moving him forward as he paused in the foyer, looking up towards the steps, the dancing and twirling, and somehow it didn't feel like it was meant for him. Instead, a chair was found, soft, plush, and opulent, and the puppet sat heavily, limbs giving way with the soft sound of wood against wood. Lifting his head, the cracks in the finish, in the varnished wood that made up his body were more evident; signs of wear and tear, nothing elegant, nothing precious.
