"There is no pain," the figure said, eyes still fixed on its own arm as the black continued to recede, infection in reverse. The voice inched slowly back up from the rumble it had become, playing with lighter tones that laced with a quiet concern. "Not any more." Another glacier-turn of time passed, and then the reflecting pool eyes were lifted to stare directly at the Suit. "Why did you touch me?" The willow-switch figure drew itself up, away from the pillar, and took a step forward through the feathers still littering the ground. As it moved forward, the shadows parted from the dark fabric of the shift it wore, forming a visible line of body instead of the near-ghost it had been. The shift that draped around the body was long enough that even with that step, it was long enough to never reveal the feet beneath. "No one touches the fallen. We are... untouchable."
