Who: Andrew and Lin
What: Birds (literally), and fun
Where: Andrew's suite at the Wynn
When: Monday night
Warnings/Rating: TBA

Andrew was becoming more accustomed to this American life. He did assume that American life in Las Vegas was a little different from the norm in this country, but he was making no effort to leave it. He actually thought he would have by now, horrified at the seedy town, but instead, he was becoming more immersed in learning everything he could, and more importantly experiencing. Lin had come along as a friend, or someone he started talking to. He was interesting, funny, lovely to look at, and here he was, making sure the place was tidy from the day's newspapers and coffee cups.

Since Sera's abrupt departure, Andrew had been a little lonely, but not as much as he thought. It gave him an opportunity to take the road away from his home life and explore who he was. It gave him an opportunity to have some fun. There were still staff members around to tend to his needs. He couldn't dismiss them, but he could escape them from time to time. Tonight he had sent his personal assistant home early. He could only assume they were catching on, but he wasn't going to worry about that just yet. He didn't want to think about the consequences of his actions in his homeland. In Las Vegas, those didn't matter, or perhaps ignoring them in favor of his new interests was a way of managing.

Looking around the rooms, elegantly decorated as they should be, wine chilling on the table, he was satisfied. Presentation was always important. He wondered for a moment if it was too much, but dismissed the thought just as quickly. He couldn't completely lose his background. He was a Lord. He could keep trying to find who he was as a man.

There were few things that pleased Lin more than introducing others to the black-and-white movies of yesteryear. It wasn't something he got to do often, so that when he did get the chance, he went all out. Though he wasn't an enthusiast of the horror genre per se (he was easily scared), it had been fun trying to figure out what to show someone who'd only ever seen one, single, mostly boring zombie movie. It was true that, perhaps, in today's world of frighteningly real effects and high-definition, a film like The Birds hardly counted as horror. (If it hadn't been made by Hitchcock, no doubt it would have been quickly rated a B-Horror.) But, it was the perfect introduction to the magical land of terrors. Or so Lin thought. Just in case, though, he'd also fetched up his copies of Nosferatu and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. It never hurt to be prepared.

If there was one good thing to say about having someone else share his head space, it was that the journals certainly made it easy to make friends - even for someone like Lin, whose general obnoxiousness generally drove others away. It was nice. It also took the awkwardness out of the whole "I'm not crazy, I just hear voices" conversation one might eventually have to have with those not so blessed with their own Jiminy Cricket. And certainly, once Theon showed up in Lin's head, he began to realize how many others there were in the same pickle as him. What better trifle to bond over than that? And the journal kept cellphone bills down.

It was thus that, after avoiding the place for more than a year, the boy found himself inside the glorious, creepily shiny lobby of the Wynn for the second time in a week. He felt like a sore thumb, standing there in a plain white v-neck and gray slacks, among the dozens of bodies that passed by wearing their best. But, he tried to be optimistic. It was nice to know that hadn't changed, at least? Yeah. Great.

After a surreptitious glance at the security camera he knew was pointing at him, Lin set his mouth into a firm line and made his way - after a number of questions and strange looks - toward Andrew's room. It was rather unfortunate that Aubrey's lackeys seemed to have remembered him. It was one thing to want to appreciate the beauty of a man in uniform from a distance, and quite another when said man took you by the arm, demanding to know why you were here. - But the ...warm welcome didn't deter the boy anymore than his feeling out of place. If anything, it made him all the more determined - so that, by the time he'd finally reached the duke's son's (right?) door, he nearly walked right in without knocking.

He managed to catch himself with a hand on the doorknob. Slowly, he released it and took a good two steps back, before lifting his fist to wrap loudly.

"I was about to make a pop culture reference about being home, but then I realized you wouldn't understand," he said through the door, assuming Andrew was near enough to hear him. He was all but yelling, anyway. That was how he liked to start off his first meetings with people, after all.

"Yes, those references," Andrew said, opening the door with a smile. "Which reference is it? There is no time like the present to start." He held the door open for Lin, who was lovelier in person. He could try to tell himself not to think in those terms, but that would prove futile, and there was no use in waging a battle with his own will.

"I know this place is a bit much at times," he said, motioning around the room, rich with wealth. Even in it's beauty, he found it a bit cold, more of a showplace than a home. "We can ignore all this. What did you bring me, and you can pick the location of my induction to birds."

He stood in the middle of the room, hopefully not looking too stuffy in tan slacks, and a light blue shirt. He owned one pair of jeans and maybe one tee shirt, other than white undershirts. He felt so awkward when he was out of his element. "I do have a DVD in the living area, and one in the bedroom. There is also a telly in the bath, which I haven't quite figured out why you need a telly in the bath." He shrugged a little bit, trying to shake the nerves.

The door opened to reveal a man, a good number of inches taller than himself, much broader in the shoulders, with a head of blond hair. He was quite pretty, with high cheekbones and lips that rivaled Lin's own. A rarity, that. The smaller boy cocked his head to the side as he smiled up at Andrew from the doorway. The other's fair complexion was in direct contrast to his own darker skin, he observed, his blond hair against Lin's black, and, of course, blue eyes versus dark brown. Even their trousers were opposites - Andrew wearing a nice pair of tan slacks, while Lin's were a dark grey. It all amused the boy more than it ought to have.

"Well, first, there's I Love Lucy," began Lin as he crosed the threshold into the large, opulent room. Even this was a 180 from the boy's own condo - a small thing full of thin blankets, an old bed, and one rather uncomfortable couch. It was a lot to take in. Aubrey, though he had more money than a man ought, had favored minimalist decor in a pale pallette of wintry colors. This - this was quite different. Plush carpet, rich colors, but cold in the same way as Aubrey's loft had been. Lin turned his attention to Andrew who had moved to the middle of the room, his expression serious. "Tell me you know who Lucille Ball was."

He waved a dismissive hand, knowing Andrew's answer would be in the negative. "We'll get to her later. This is - " He glanced around a second time, eyes lingering briefly on the hallway - how big was this place? In the middle of his sentence, Lin decided he would do as Andrew bit and ignored it all. He gave another happy smile, as if wholly unaware of his unfinished thought.

It wasn't hard to tell that the nobleman was slightly nervous. Though people weren't Lin's forte, it wasn't often - in normal circumstances - that he felt anxious around them. If anything he could be too familiar and blase, not quite understanding social boundaries. Quietly, he listened to Andrew list the various places they could begin their cultural undertaking.

"I'll tell you why you have a tv in the bathroom," said Lin, taking Andrew's arm in his own and walking toward what he assumed was the back of the apartment, or whatever this place was called. He didn't know where the bathroom was, but trusted the other man would direct them. He simply walked, dragging the poor fellow along. He spoke knowingly and in a low voice, as if sharing a long-held secret. Lin gave Andrew a sly smile. "So you can fill the tub with pillows and cushions and watch from there."

Andrew was socially awkward when it came to friends. He was used to keeping people at arm's length, both literally and figuratively. He had years of lessons in proper conduct to shed, and he did want to shed that. Even at Cambridge, he was strongly discouraged to join in at parties, remaining morally upright at all times. Sera had been of the same mind, and together it wasn't so dull, but now, without her, he wanted to explore.

When Lin took his arm, he didn't object, following him with a quick laugh. They stood, staring at the extra large tub. "You're joking. Pillows and blankets?" He never would have considered that, but the man next to him made it sound good, great even.

Lin was so close to what he had expected of him. What he lacked in stature, he made up for with that magnetic smile and personality. Andrew didn't find him awkward at all, but fun. He only hoped that when Lin left, it wouldn't be in a huff, never wanting to go back to such a stuffy Brit.

One thing was certain - he would have to step outside his box. He was beginning to do that. He stepped over the sides until he was standing in it. "Now I'm thinking of Lucy dancing in that bucket. She was positively mad." He wasn't going to stop to think about how a wealthy noble ended up standing in a bathtub, considering how they would both fit, even if they just met. He was going with it.

"If I were joking - well, that would be a terrible joke. There is nothing funny about pillows and blankets in the tub. It's serious business," Lin replied matter-of-factly, giving Andrew a sidelong glance as they passed from the high-ceilinged corridor into the equally-as-high-ceilinged bathroom. The room was bright, every surface shined to a mirror-like sheen, making the evening light that streamed in from the windows bounce around wildly. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust, but eventually the tub - the very large tub - came into focus.

The boy grinned as he watched Andrew step into the bathtub. The thing managed to dwarf even him. Lin's eyes lingered briefly on the blue of the other man's t-shirt, before he nodded, then began moving toward the second set of doors that, he assumed, led somewhere that would have blankets they could begin piling into the tub. He spoke over his shoulder as he reached for the knob. "If you were ginger, you could totally sell it."

He was serious. Andrew looked at him with wide eyes. His mouth was open, not that he noticed, as Lin walked towards the bedroom. He lifted his arm to point in the correct direction, going with it even though he was still in shock. It was a great feeling, so unlike anything he was used to. Lin was adventurous, and playful, so easy on the eyes.

"I don't think ginger would go well with my skin tone. She was stomping grapes though, wasn't she? I did that once in Italy. It was very messy," he said, not really thinking much about a better reply. He actually thought Lin might like it. He hadn't been a huge fan of the wet fruit between his toes, but Lin seemed to have this light about him, and this love of new and different things, at least that was his first impression.

His eyes followed the dark haired man, stepping out of the tub. "There are some extra pillows in the closet, probably blankets too. They keep me well stocked." Who would have thought he would be using them for this.

Trying to snap his mind out of it's hypnotic state, he found the remote control for the telly. "You never did tell me what movies you brought? I know we must have those birds. I'll be sure to keep the windows shut tonight, just in case. Wouldn't want the ones outside to get any ideas."

"I don't know if ginger goes well with any skin tone besides sheet white - and even then, ...," Lin trailed off as opened the set of doors that led from the room, pausing only to shake his head sadly at the state of the redheaded and their skin troubles. He was glad for his own dark hair. The boy was fairly certain he would make an even worse ginger than the man exiting the tub behind him. As he moved into the other room - or corridor or maybe it was a closet that was between the bathroom and the bedroom? - he smiled over his shoulder, quirking a brow at the blond. "Messy, but delicious? Do people eat the grapes they stomp on? I would."

Lin had never been inside of a tub full of quashed grapes, but he supposed he could dig it. Why not? He was rather fond of red grapes. Then again, there wasn't much that - given it was in a tub in copious amounts, wasn't sharp or particularly hard, and wasn't a form of waste - that Lin wouldn't want to stomp on. Peeps, for example, would be a good deal of fun.

The Brit really was well-stocked on his linens, Lin discovered. In the weird, limbo room he found a good amount of blankets carefully folded on a series of eerily symmetrical shelves. Without hesitation, he grabbed an armful of the thick comforters and dragged them back toward the bathroom, careful not to trip over the trailing fabric.

"Shh!" At Andrew's mention of The Birds and, well, the birds, the other boy adopted a very scared expression. He whispered as he neared the tub a second time, dropping the blankets into the thing. "They'll hear you. And I rather like my eyes. I'd rather they not get pecked out. At least not tonight. I know you're into the whole stabby, eye-wound thing, but it's all rather un-American."

"Eat them? They aren't mad, those are bare feet." There was a smile on his face, slightly horrified, and thoroughly entertained, even though he knew he could never eat foot stomped grapes. That was the Lin factor. He looked around the corner, watching the dark haired man. He couldn't seem to take his eyes off of him. "You would love the Italian wine festival. Fine wine, and all the grapes you can stomp." He put a hand to his face, thinking how much he would love watching that show, Lin in a tub of grapes.

When Lin returned full of pillows and blankets, it was all Andrew could do to keep from giggling. In Britain, he was known to be far too serious. He rarely laughed, struggling under the weight of expectations, and now it was coming so easily. The further away he got from his life as a noble, the more his own personality came to the surface.

"We were talking about a sexclops. Maybe this is a golden opportunity." His own blue eyes met brown ones. Soft, yet dark, and rich - how those eyes blended so well with his skin and his hair was a mystery. "However, if you insist, I will have to protect you." He held out his hand for the DVD, offering a sly smile.

Lin didn't have time to respond to the look of horror on Andrew's face regarding eating stomped-on-grapes. There were pillows and things to be fetched! Idly, he wondered if he would like an Italian wine festival, but only very briefly, because then he was dumping the blankets from his arms into the deep tub. The boy grinned over at Andrew as he forcefully shoved pillows into place, using his fists to pack everything in..

Wiping his forehead with the back of his hand, he took a step back to appreciate his work. The tub was more than half full of fluff. That was satisfactory, Lin decided, pleased with himself as he kicked off his Keds and climbed in. He slid down onto the cushioning blankets, surprised at how far he could extend his legs. The bathtub was really the size of a small boat or a skiff. The boys were lucky Andrew had as many very fluffy things as he did, or else Lin's idea might not've worked.

As it was, it had panned out brilliantly. Resituating a pillow to recline on, Lin smiled up at the other man, then laughed at his mention of the sexclops. He happily handed over the DVDs, then pulled his feet up underneath himself (as he was wont to do).

"I do insisit. At least for now. Who knows, maybe I'll be inspired by The Birds and will want to be rid of my own pesky eyes at the end," Lin said with a shrug. Eagerly, he pointed at the other two DVD cases in Andrew's hands. "I also brought Nosferatu - it's German and about a vampire. But it is a silent film. So is the other one - both German and silent, but it - The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - is about a sonambulist and a doctor of sorts killing people in a small German village."

After rattling off barebones descriptions of some of his favorite movies, Lin turned his eyes to the other man's face to see how he would react. He had a feeling that the regal regard that Andrew carried himself with could be shaken off him if one tried hard enough.

There were many times at the university that Andrew had wanted to join in the fun. He had occasionally been in the background, especially at the annual party at Cambridge. Now there were no watchful eyes, only a bloke who seemed to find interesting ways to entertain. There was no time like the present to start enjoying himself.

He stepped out of his shoes, black Italian loafers, setting them neatly beside Lin's. He put the dvd in the slot under the telly and pushed play. Carefully, he stepped into the tub and sat. It was awkward, but he was taken by this bundle of energy next to him. God, that smile... It took a moment to remember what he was thinking about as the previews started. "I think you should keep those pesky eyes for now." Brown, so incredibly brown. I may have underestimated that color.

"You like silent, foreign films?" he asked, pulling himself back. "I have been to Cannes several times, and I do love all sorts of film. I have not seen as many as I should." He had a feeling that there would be many more. He surveyed the pillows and blankets, sinking back into them. It felt awkward, but he wasn't moving. "So what do these birds do?"

Where Andrew felt it awkward, Lin felt nothing. Not to say awkwardness never plagued him - because it did, but just right now, despite never having met the duke's son in person before, the boy felt very comfortable. He smiled happily at the other man as he was joined in the tub, and scooched a bit to make enough room for the other's taller frame. Luckily, Lin was like a cat and preferred curling up, unless there was sunshine to stretch out in. He pulled his feet under himself and moved his eyes from the DVD's previews to his tub-mate.

"Girl," he said with a shake of the head. Some found it perhaps surprising that someone as talkative as Lin liked films without a word spoken, but really it made perfect sense. It was hard to talk over someone else, wasn't it? "You don't even know how much I like the silent era. - Not that I'd want to have lived then. I would have been killed for being not only mixed, but also not straight. But, man, if I don't love me some Charlie Chaplin."

With another smile, Lin settled himself in. By sitting on his feet as he was, it meant he was leaning a bit to the side, which meant he was more or less against Andrew, which he didn't mind at all.

"You'll just have to watch and find out, won't you? Suffice it to say, eyes are lost, as are lives, and birds are heavily involved." The boy flashed the other man a grin as the DVD menu came up.

His lips curled into a broad grin watching the dark haired man who had so much animation, and seemed to love to talk. His words seemed so backwards as slang often did. His head was trying to keep up with what he was saying. "Charlie Chaplin was the Little Tramp or something, right? Wasn't he the one who entered the look alike contest and lost?" He had heard the story and found it amusing that anyone could enter a contest about themselves and lose. "We will have to watch him then."

He found he didn't mind that contact at all. The side of his brain that was very proper only protested a little bit, but the other part that was incredibly intrigued had turned on. His eyes shifted between the screen and Lin. His darker skin seemed of Italian descent, although his voice indicated that he had grown up in the United States. His smaller frame seemed to suit him, forming a quite perfect package. His lips were a lot like Andrew's, not thin, but fuller, almost pouty if he was inclined, and those eyes. He had to focus on the movie, right? Yes, the movie. It was starting.

"So when the birds come in to peck out my eyes, are you going to protect me?" His brow arched. "I do have some tennis rackets. I think we could use those. I had a personal trainer for a few years. I think we could take the nasty little blighters." The arm that was stretched across the left side of his body also now rested against Lin. His hand seemed to position perfectly just above Lin's waist. He wondered if he should actually be touching him, even if it was fairly innocent. The ideas in his head didn't count just yet.
