Who: Kitane What: Travelling. Where: Las Vegas -> The surrounding area When: Within the past day or so Warnings/Rating: Sads?
When she'd run out of Turnberry, Kitane hadn't a thought about where she wanted to go, only where she didn't. She didn't want to stay locked up in there, where Theo was so mad at her. Not the Wynn, nor Aubrey's, or Ainslie's studio, nor Justine's or Nicky's or Mingmei's apartment. Her key was back upstairs, which also ruled out going to the hotel, and that was fine with her. Even though Dany was urging her to stop, to slow down, to think, she just wanted to get as far away as she could.
Sometimes, her feet took her where they wanted. Kitane didn't even notice until she'd left the town limits and passed into the wide open desert. She didn't stop then, her feet weren't done, but it took a mile or two for her to realize she wasn't alone. Though she kept glancing back, there was only a shadow until she finally stopped. Whatever it was, it wasn't good. She had no way to defend herself, not any of her hunting knives, nothing at all until she picked up a rock from the desert floor. It was another mile before it ventured close enough for her to get a look at it.
It was nothing more than a skinny dog. He crept closer whenever she stopped, but he didn't attack her. Once he was close enough, he rubbed up against her legs and licked her wet face until she laughed again. He wasn't Viserion, but he kept her company as she walked deeper into the desert.
Her face was dry when she finally named him. Scratch. He stayed with her when the first truck driver -- huge, balding, with a laugh that filled the whole space -- stopped for her. He was willing to take her and Scratch west. Her feet weren't done yet and she'd never been further west than Las Vegas. His name was Bear, just Bear, and Scratch slept with his head in her lap as he drove them west and away from the city that was her home.
