You've been to New York City nearly every year since you were born. This is the first time you've been there in September. Normally, you spend most of the holidays here on the Upper East Side but now you'll be living here. You love your Uncle to bits and it's kind of exciting to be moving in with him. School is just a few blocks away and you'll be able to walk there instead of taking a bus or having your mom drive you in! The best part about all of this is actually a combination of two things. The first is that you won't have to hear all the fighting anymore. The second is that he'll be at school with you.
You don't think about that too hard, but you are glad that you'll have someone you know there. Today is your first day and it's a little intimidating. You've been to private school before, but you've seen Gossip Girl. Will it be anything like that? You're dressed in the school uniform, a plaid skirt with a white button down shirt, and the most comfortable black flats you own. Your messenger bag is slung over your shoulder, filled with the supplies you'll think you need. Notebooks primarily, but there were also fifteen pencils, three erasers, six highlighters, five pens, a white out device, and a black Sharpie tucked in the various pockets of your bag.
The dean was nice, but the meaning was short. You're introduced to Matthew, a junior and member of the swim team. He's handsome, sweet, and clearly flirting with you, but you don't do much more than smile shyly. He takes you on a tour of the school, but he doesn't take you to the library for some reason. "Excuse me," you say politely, interrupting some comment he's making about how good a swimmer he is. "Could you show me where the library is?" He looks at you oddly and immediately, he's different.
"You don't need to know that. Only geeks and nerds go to the library." And then he looks at his watch and says he has to go, but you know that's a lie. You sigh and head to your locker, wondering if everyone will be like him. This was supposed to be different, a fresh start. Still, you stay positive. Maybe things really will be different here. There's still a chance you won't be known as the nerdy girl. You hope so.
