He's over by the other table, playing decoy while you watch cards flip flip flip. You catch his eye and he smirks back at you like the devil with his hands in someone else's apple pie. This is why your moms told you to stay away from men. Sure, girls had the capabilities to be mean, rotten to the bone, but they didn't sweep you up like glass on the kitchen floor. Besides, it doesn't matter if he's trouble. So are you. Ever since you showed up in this town of lights and lost money. You've been nothing but trouble.
So, maybe it's your fault. You sit there, looking at him for just a couple seconds long after he's turned back around. Thinking about how he didn't need a friend like you. He needed someone to tell him no. Someone who could admit what you and him were doing was wrong. But, you're selfish and you can't see the fun in that anyway. If you and him end up dead somewhere in the desert for turning this town on its head, then so be it.
You smile, close your eyes and turn back to the table you're supposed to be watching. This town doesn't understand what adventure is, a voice creeps along the inside of your skull. They think it's in booze and money, but you know better, don't you? You feel a comic book grin cross your lips and suddenly someone else is doing all the counting for you.
