Like Anton's, this memory left Nell smiling. She still had a vague recollection of that day - you never could forget the day you met your best friend - but it had been much hazier than what she had just seen. This memory was dark and sharp and looking through MK's eyes, Nell could feel the little girl's hope and desire to make new friends. She had forgotten about the lisp of course, and having heard young Maddie Kate's voice again, Nell was overwhelmed by just how adorable her friend had been. Nell had always wondered what had made MK approach her all those years ago, whether it was on purpose or through sheer dumb luck, and even now, she wasn't entirely sure which one it had been.
Fate. That's what it had to be. Fate had drawn MK to her that day, and fate is what had kept them friends through the ups and downs and thousands of miles that threatened to tear them apart. Of all the cards life had dealt her, the ones with MK and her family were the ones she was more grateful for.
The dizziness finally abated, and Nell finally rolled herself out of bed to get ready to go back out into the real world. She had calls to make, and sooner or later, Arya was going to have to go through that door.
