She did not recognize the man who turned the corner, but she understood the feelings of loss that came with being left behind. The rest left a bad taste in her mouth, however, that sense of needing revenge, of not mattering without someone else to validate her (his?) worth. She was glad when those feelings passed, and then something stirred in her mind.
Sam, and recognition, but it meant nothing to her, and she was glad of it.
The ambulance sirens cried out in the distance, but she did not know them for what they were. When one of the nurses offered to help her inside, she took the offered arm easily. The nurses whispered to each other, but she didn't notice that either.
"Nothing like when she got here," one of them insisted, and the others merely nodded and agreed silently.
