Jules was still sitting there, quiet as a church mouse on the ratty carpet. There had been a real long lull, and he'd thought it was done. He'd caught his breath some, and he thought it was over. Hell, he'd even considered standing and facing the music, like he should have done at that church, but when this memory hit it was like concrete blocks, and there wasn't nothing he could do but sit there and take it.
Violet, in the back of his mind, whimpered. And Jules? Jules maybe understood. For the first damn time, maybe he understood.
