Do these books ever come to people by mistake? Can I return it? I'm pretty sure this book was delivered to the wrong address.

Wouldn't that be a comforting thought. It's a weirdo club, and apparently, you're a member.

Alright, so I'm strange, but these things are meant for people who live with fictional characters, right? That's not me.

I like to think of it as people who have fictional characters freeloading in their brains and offering game-day commentary, but more or less.

And if you got a book, you've got your very own personal, fictional equivalent of Bob Costas narrating your own Olympic Games. Sorry.

Right, I get the concept, but that's where it falls apart. There's nobody else here. Not a hint of a snigger when I trip over a box, naery a sigh when I'm an idiot. The only disturbing dreams are mine. It's just me.

No presence? No sense that someone's watching? No weird writing in a language you don't know? Nothing?

The only creeping dread that somebody is watching has to do with my job being monitored. The book came with drawings in it, but they were there when I first opened it up.

Well, I hear you on the creeping dread re: job issue. That's ... pretty par for the course with most jobs. Sad, but true.

If you've got a key, you've got your invisible shotgun rider. Them's the breaks. At least, as far as I understand it. I just got mine last month.

So how do I find out who the key belongs to? There's a whole lot of fiction out there.

Well, I just asked, personally. They have their ways of asserting themselves. There's always the option of going through the Door.

Well, I'm on...well I guess the other side. Not the Vegas side, whatever you want to call that! It still confuses me!! I'm Goku, by the way, and the girl who's, um, in my head didn't speak really good English so she stayed quiet a bit until she felt comfortable trying to talk to me and stuff. So maybe something like that is happening to you, too? I'm also technically dead so when I said that she went quiet for a long while. Maybe yours is like me? I don't know!

I haven't heard of a book being mailed to the incorrect address. Do you not have...someone who talks to you in your head?

...That sounds a little mad, when I put it like that.

Pretty quiet, all things told. My head is as empty as it's ever been, and I definitely don't hear voices.

Maybe they're a quiet person by nature? Or shy. Or waiting to see if it's safe to talk. Some of them seem just as confused as we are by all of...this.

I find it pretty confusing, and all I've done is read the book, so far. I'm still not convinced the book was meant to come to me but I'm willing to entertain arguments, especially if someone announces themselves as having ownership of the key.

What does your key look like? They all seem to reflect the...character of the voice and you can tell so much about what type of person the owner of an object is by examining it.

Um.

Forgive the terrible pun.

...I'm sorry for asking so many questions, you don't have to answer them if you don't want to. I don't want to pry.

Asking questions about a key hardly seems like prying. It's a pretty weird key. It's kind of shaped like a tree, made of black metal. When my daughter saw it she said it was pretty.

The journal the girl in my head and I have is covered in sunflowers, they stand for an important memory of hers. The tree might represent something similar for whoever it belongs to. A memory, or a religious symbol, or...any number of things.

I would suggest that maybe the journal was for your daughter, but I haven't met anyone who was very young and received one. ...It makes sense. This experience is strange enough for adults to cope with.

[Alexander's handwriting is large and has several underlines underneath it, adamant.]

The key is not for either of my kids. They're just children. If it's not mine, it came to the wrong house.

Trying to pass the journal off as a returned library book just makes the voice in your head angry. Trust me.

But, you know mine's always angry so what's the fucking difference.

But there's no voice in my head...!

All the same, I don't think I'll be giving it to a local library.
