[Left on her dresser for when she gets out of county lock up]

It's a thousand dollars, non-sequential small bills just like most people prefer. There a business card that's blank save for a phone number (untraceable) and written on the back in block letters is a note.

The Irish aren't the only ones in Vegas.

[What the fuck. The money makes her pause for a long time before she grabs the metal bat by her door and searches the tiny motel room for some kind of hitman or something. Then, finally, she decides to try the number. With the motel room's phone, not her cell.]

Ring.

[Second ring. He knows the motel's number.]

Ms King. I see you've returned home.

Money runs Vegas. It's just a matter of who has it. Do you enjoy your current arrangement?

My current arrangement? [Pause.] Yeah, being out of jail's a blast, time for a pool party.

I would think that party would be more fun if your brother could be there.

[Long fucking pause.] Who is this? [There's noise on her end as she drags the telephone by it's cord to the window, a prying at the blinds.] What's with the money? If the cops come kicking in my door any second, I'm going to be pissed off.

[That earns her a soft chuckle.] My name is Wayne Mumford, Ms King, and I can assure you that if a cop came to your door, it wouldn't be to arrest you. The money is a...well, let's call it a gift, hmm? No strings attached. Now [and his tone shifts to his 'business' tone] I can take on your brother's debts and assure his safety and comfort in prison if you agree to do favors for me from time to time.

[The name doesn't ring a bell, it wouldn't in her poor little circle.] You can [...] do that?

You have my personal guarantee that your brother will be safe for the remainder of his sentence. That's [he flips through some paperwork] twelve years, isn't it? With the possibility of parole, too.

I make it a point to know a great deal about my competitors, including who owes them money.

They care about money, not where it comes from. [...] I need some kind of assurance. [Viv's not smart, but she's not stupid.] 10 grand wired to them today, I want a receipt.

[He's pleasantly surprised by this, but there's some jostling and then he's typing. He does all of this while he's on the line with her while he wires the money.]

You should have the particulars in your inbox.

[She stares at the phone for a second before letting it drop off the hook. This might have been a mistake.]
