So, the basic gist of it is that the medical branch of Momentum is creating an AR/VR game. They’ll be setting up in a park and offer the chance to beta test for anyone who’s interested in doing so. Each person (character) can only go through once, which will take about 45 minutes on average (30 for the actual test, 15 for pretest paperwork and post-test interview). The characters will get a VR headset and a phone sheath (both of which must be returned at the end of the test for proper sanitization), run through the holographic maze and do stuff, then, well, leave. While characters will have to go through one at a time, none of the employees will force people to leave before or after if they're socializing with others who have gone through or are waiting to go through (unless you're holding up the entrance line, in which case they'll ask you to come through or move along very politely). There are no NDAs being signed, so please feel free to have characters post about this event all you want!
Overall, we wanted to have a fun, low intensity event at the beginning of it all. Next, we have a couple of preemptive questions we came up with, but there will also be a spot for questions if we've missed anything.
Question: What’s in the packet:
Answer: Within the packet of information provided, testers would find the disclaimers needing signature as well as a form that looked quite similar to an incoming patient survey to match with data provided during the conclusion survey. The forms also explained the purpose behind all of the special permissions the app needed.
Question: What does the app need access to on my phone?
Answer: Access to the phone’s data was required for the internet connect needed. One’s contacts and microphone were required in case a call came through to make sure it wouldn’t interfere with the app itself. There was also a need for access to the phone’s media, including camera and photos, in case the tester wanted to take screenshots. There was also a required access for Bluetooth and current wifi capabilities in order to have the headset be connected to the phone. The last requirement, and the one that got the most questions, was a need to have access to the tester’s personal data for biological feedback from the program for further study. When asked, the employees at the entrance would simply state that the company was interested in being able to match up as much health data as possible with the desire to prevent as many issues for the general public down the line.
Question: What’s the company doing with the data?
Answer: In essence, the health data volunteered on the forms, the biometric data obtained during the test, and the survey at the end would allow the company to combine all the data and see if there were any unexpected responses and reactions. Many potential problems had been addressed during development, including modes that reduced flashes to an absolute minimum and others that attempted to compensate for those who suffered vision issues such as limited vision or colorblindness.
Question: What minor quests can the characters do?
Answer: Spending 10 gold of the allotted 100 gold will earn 200 experience points for your character and help them level up to become stronger. Collecting 5 flowers in the virtual world will reward you with one potion or one flower crown. The flower crown gives your character +10 health points in battles.
