[Social Event: Songkran Celebration at Purvama!]
Who: Zhila Mazdayasna (Host and Owner of Purvama) & OPEN TO ALL.
What: Songkran themed charity event
When: April 18th, 2021
Where: Purvama
Ratings/Warnings: Warn your threads please, otherwise no warnings for main set-up.
While Zhila Mazdayasna herself was not Thai, that did not mean she was unaware of the challenges that faced Thailand or the sheer joy that their celebrations could bring. While the majority of celebrations for Songkran would be over in Queens due to the much larger Asian population in that area of NYC that didn’t mean they would be without. For those who could not make it to Queens Zhila assured they would have a place to celebrate as well. With those things in mind Zhila would find herself opening Purvama’s doors for charity once more instead of the regularly nightly dance parties and club beats that were normally housed within the building she owned.
This time the charity’s benefited would take on a slightly different slant. All of Purvama had been decorated with Thailand themed displays and decorations. Completely transforming the night club into a Thailand themed escape. From the brightly colored umbrellas hung from the ceiling to the Thai statues of dragons that adorned Purvama’s space the entire event was a sight to behold.
The door fee - sliding scale, recommended minimum $5 but no one would be turned away for lack of funds - would have all proceeds going to help fight poverty in Thailand. While the food and drinks of the night would not be included in the door fee, any food or drinks bought - all authentic Thai recipes if the spring rolls, rolled ice cream, thai iced coffee and/or tea, Chicken Satay, or any of the other finger food like items or salads - would have 50% of the profits donated to help feed the hungry of Thailand. Finally, all profits from event tickets - of which there were many if it was the dunk tank, the wet t-shirt contest, the temporary pool with slide, the Gladiator Joust which had been sealed so that the bottom of the area held a few inches of water causing the loser to drop into water upon their loss, or just grabbing some water balloons or a provided squirt gun and heading out for a water fight on the dance floor - would go to benefit education for children in Thailand. However, for those who may not be able to afford much more than the door fee, there was plenty of space and cheer to be had in splashing around on the dancefloor with one’s friends or with squirt guns and buckets or other items - as long as they were safe - that had been brought from home.
If anyone had wished to donate items for a silent auction Zhiila assured that space was available in a dry spot, away from all the noise. If anyone had an idea for an event, she was happy to hear it, and would try to support it as long as it could fit in with the theme and ideals of the celebration for the day.
