Friday was Cat Day. Since the inception of the business, Sammy and her co-owner had labeled the last Friday of every month as Cat Day. Originally the two would bring their cats to the office on that day, but as the business expanded and more people were hired, it became a generic "Bring your pet to work day." On Cat Day, pets were brought in to run around and greet everyone before being relegated to the company's break room. Some people had to put their animals away in some way because they couldn't be trusted not to make a mess or cause issues, but overall it was a pretty happy occasion for everyone involved, even those who didn't have pets.
Today was no different. Sammy brought Stella into the office, ready for a great time of pets running around and having a good time. Stella happened to be one of those cats that acted more like a dog, even if she did have cat-like moments of being aloof. Sammy watched as the ginger cat, large by most popular views of cat sizes, pounced on one of her coworkers' puppies before taking off after a ball that had been rolled through the room. She smiled as she greeted people coming in for the day, giving head or ear or chin scratches, or, in the case of a fish in a portable tank, a little wave. There were more grinning faces than usual, not that people ever seemed unhappy at work. People just really liked seeing the animals playing around and having fun.
While she knew that eventually clients were going to start coming in, Sammy took the time to really breathe in the atmosphere as it was. Granted, that included various animal smells, but that was no big deal. Maybe in another life she would have been a vet, but in this life she loved what she did and would continue doing it until it was time to pass the business on.
When it was time, Sammy helped corral the animals to the break room and helped clean up some of the fur that had been left around. She also helped straighten up the office and put things back where they belonged if they had gotten pushed or knocked over by an excited pet. With a few sprays of an air freshener that everyone could agree on, it was time to start the day. The door on the sign was flipped to say they were open, the front desk worker was in place, and Sammy returned to her office ready to go. There were several items that needed to be found before the weekend, and there were a few sessions of potential matches that she needed to attend later on. Of course, there was also the potential to have clients walk in without an appointment that she'd have to handle, but the front desk worker would let her know if and when that happened. In the meantime, she'd do other things. Maybe even help out with the manual searching that some of her employees needed to do. Phone calls, emails, internet searches, etc. It was great that she could figure out where things were outside of short range, but those items needed to be found in more mundane ways.
With her day loosely scheduled out, Sammy smiled and grabbed her phone. She tried to give a greeting everyday to the employees to let them know that they were valued and being thought about. She felt there was nothing worse than employees who felt ignored, which was why she had started doing the daily greeting. Using the button that allowed her to announce something through all of the phones' speakers, she began speaking.
"Good morning everyone! Happy Friday! Let's make today a wonderful end of the month. Have fun, and remember, if you need a bit of happiness, there are plenty of animals in the break room to make you smile!"
