What: A summoning spell - “Behind the scenes event” (These help convey plot that is happening to players that is happening “in the background” to set up for future events and may have investigation aspects that players can find out about by having their character investigate what happened if there are traceable clues)
Where: The basement of a building in the Bronx
When: Late night Feb 21st
Rating: PG -
Status: Complete
The basement was one that had seen many years of use and abuse. An obvious lack of proper upkeep had caused the stone and wood to discolor, metal pipes to begin to rust, and stone to dust and begin to crumble around the edges. Dust had spent so long accumulating that an obvious thin layer of dirt had formed except for the area that had been cleared for the ritual this dark February night. The center of the room was the only area clean and was lit by numerous candles around the perimeter of the clearing. There - in purified salt - a circle had been drawn with a strange looking twelve pointed star. At the end of each point a strange looking symbol would appear. The only source of life being a hooded figure methodically preparing the spellwork in the center of the room. It wouldn’t take long before the preparation had been finished and it was time to begin the spell. A low murmuring of an ancient incantation would permeate the area, candles flickering as the cloaked figure spoke. The still air of the basement swirled in the center of the figure drawn on the floor, kicking up dust and minor debris while the air seemed to focus, growing into a small dust devil. While the entire swirling tunnel of wind wasn’t more than six feet tall it completely obstructed the casters view to the other side of the room. Noise could be heard outside the building and in the floors above as the dust devil grew to its grand climax, slinging around small pieces of loose rubble before vanishing as quickly as it had appeared and a new small group of shadowy figures had replaced it. “You will find me the gems.” The cloak figure commanded the shadowy goblinoid creatures. “And bring them to me.” A low chattering noise full of clicks, growls and pops could be heard as one goblin’s head turned, speaking to another in a language that seemed only decipherable to their own kind. The cloaked figure waited, if the spell had worked correctly, these creatures should be at their command… If the spell hadn’t they soon would likely be ripped apart by the monsters before them. There seemed to be a consensus reached as all of the small shadowy goblin creatures nodded in agreement before the biggest looked back to the cloaked figure. A shadowy hand would be reached out, seeking something and the cloaked figure would step forward offering a piece of parchment with an ancient scripture written across it. The small pack of shadow goblins would gather around, seemingly trying to get a look at the parchment before looking back at the cloaked figure once more. “We…. accept…” Lowly hissed the largest. “But we need…” The largest would gesture towards its pack. “Moorreeeeee.” The cloaked figure would nod, then begin to speak. “I have twisted within your spell the ability to replicate.” The goblins would perk up, curious as to what the caster had done. “Go, feed, and your numbers shall grow.” To the spell worker’s words the goblins perked up further, grinning with toothy mouths. “Find my gems and all of New York will be yours.” A low pleased murmuring, more chattering and hisses came from the goblins, an agreement to the cloaked caster’s terms. Yet, the peace of the conversation was quickly broken as the shadow goblins began to scatter across New York for they would need items and creatures on which to feast. |
