There it was. Her mentor's characteristic frankness. There was still part of Wanda--broken and bitter as she was--that could appreciate it. She nodded thoughtfully at this response, seeming to accept the truth of the words even as she wondered privately how Natasha truly felt about spending so much time at the Capitol. If the media and her own behavior were to be believed, escaping the crushing poverty of Seven to spend days and nights amidst the Capitol set was an unending delight. That narrative disgusted Wanda to her core, and she had been to ready to believe it initially, looking for any reason to lash out at her mentor. But now... now she wondered.
"I think I do want to stay," Wanda replied slowly, as if only reaching this conclusion now. "At least for the immediate future. There's really nothing back in Three for me and I think keeping busy would be good for me. You now, all things considered." And that was as close to referencing Pietro's death as Wanda was likely to get. Using her brother's memory in any way--even to advance her own cause of avenging him--filled Wanda with self-loathing.
A beat passed before Wanda's brain processed the rest of Natasha's sentence. 'The space'? She meant that Wanda could stay with her. Wanda glanced sharply at the other woman, instantly suspicious of some ulterior motive. But what could hosting her profit Natasha? One extra interview on Capitol TV? A few more people wanting to read stories about the kindly mentor taking pity on her fragile young protégée? Natasha seemed popular enough not to need any new slant on her to attract admiration or attention. But even if the offer was nothing more than a crass ploy to make her seem winningly sympathetic, what did Wanda care? Having Natasha around, and her lavish home as a base, would be an asset. She supposed she'd have to worry about the woman spying and informing on her, but it seemed worth the risk in Wanda's quick mental calculations.
"Wait... are you sure?" she asked quickly, sounding almost girlish in her excitement. "You wouldn't mind?"
