I've never turned a gift away. I wouldn't second-guess one of yours for all the wine in my cellar. Thanks. I mean that.
Let's hit these in numerical order. (That way, we can do the bad news first. I like to do that. You'd be surprised what you can get away with! (Maybe you wouldn't.))
1. You're right. No support here - status quo is music to their ears. That can mean different things, though. People who care most about good food and late nights and very quiet mornings, not that I know any, don't give a shit who gives it to them. If we look like winners, they'll fall in line. We just have to have the nicest tailfeathers. (Lucky you got me.) Oh, and District 1's primary export is bribe material. We need at least a couple connects here. People don't join wars because you didn't give them presents. Put a pin in this one.
2. You're wrong. (And you know I hate telling you you're wrong. Almost as much as I hate telling blondes and my barber.) No, we won't have any support. But yes, there's a mountain's worth of use in making a play for this sandlot. If we can get a hold on that fortress, we have staying power like you've never seen. (Well. Maybe a couple of times.) If we don't take that fortress, we're fucked for years. You can't write this one off. We don't need the people, but we need the facilities. Full stop.
3. You got this one. Full of willing cannon fodder. Goes in our column.
4. You didn't touch on Four. I don't think they're likely to back us. But I haven't been there lately. I also think I don't care that much, because they don't have anything I can buy people with, and they don't have guns. Potential food source. Can't starve them out - they have all they need. They can also fuck off in boats if they get tired of this whole thing. We might consider if we also want the option of fucking off in boats.
5. Home sweet home! You're right, big gains here if we can grab the reins. Worth a propaganda campaign, isn't it?
6. Again. Lump it in with 5.
7. Who taught you to count? I know it may not be sexy, but 7 is fucking huge. You want somewhere to get lost and set up shop, this could be your answer. (Other answers: there are empty arenas out there for days. Defensible. Full of resources. Generally attached to pretty nice places to sleep. You could do a lot worse. Just a thought.)
8. Man, I still don't even want to talk about it.
9. I hate to be that guy. But a couple matches on a dry day, and - poof. No more bread. No more cake, even. Can you imagine? People would be in the fucking streets.
10. See #9. Good siege option. Proximity makes it more important to cut off from the Capitol than 9, yes, but basically the same considerations. They need to eat. So do we. (So do the rest of the districts we may or may not be cutting off. Problems for later. Can't talk distribution before you even have a product. We're on a timeline.)
11. See #9. (Fuck, farms are not space-efficient.)
12. Hey, tell us how you really feel. I agree, not a lot going on. Never quite understood why we still need coal, anyway. Is it just to give them something to do? Poor bastards. Anyway, can't write people off. Lip service is important. People like to feel important. What does it cost us to say we're on their side? Zilch. Numbers are our big problem. We don't have bodies. 12 doesn't have a lot, but we're working with thin margins. This is cannon fodder and I bet it comes pretty cheap if we ask for it. Bargain district.
So that's that. Re: firepower, what we got ain't nothing, okay. We won't outgun them, but we can take a skirmish here and there were it counts. Anyway. "Someone running this thing" is concern number one. Believe it or not, you're not the first person to come to me with some thoughts. People are champing at the damn bit. They all want to do something. And none of them are in the same room together. That's a recipe for everyone wearing the same dress to the party. Not a good look. You know what I always say, five's a crowd, but it might be time to see who wants a seat at the table. What do you think? I told someone the other day - victors are a good start. Everyone but 1, 2, and 4. Very arguable. Let me hear it.
