Chocolate might be one of Peggy's very few vices. She didn't care to drink to excess, though she'd sip wine at dinner or have a cocktail in her hands at parties. She'd never cared for drugs of any sort, preferring to remain in control of her faculties for a variety of fairly obvious reasons. Casual sex was nothing she could bring herself to indulge, for her own self-respect; it was a slippery slope, that kind of thing, and Peggy had worked hard to carve out a reputation of being just this side of chilly- aloof, slightly cool, and definitely uninterested in more than light flirtation when it came to any social scene.
Steve, though. This wasn't idle flirtation. It wasn't smiling at him for the sake of form or to be polite. She wanted this relationship to work, but the challenges were beginning to mount (and they'd never been minor in the first place).
Setting aside her glass of wine, she chuckled softly. "Peanut butter and jam is an excellent backup plan," Peggy agreed, sitting back. As to Bucky's trustworthiness, though... that was something else, and she supposed she might as well tackle that angle while it was available. Less confrontational than some things she could do to broach the things they weren't talking about, anyway. "You know, I owe you an apology."
She paused, lips pursed as she drew a measured breath through her nose. "I should've warned you about the rumors circulating about Bucky's... aggressive behavior in the bedroom. Because you don't spend much time in the Capitol, I hadn't anticipated you might hear them, and that was... that was foolish of me." Huffing out a short, self-deprecating laugh, she shook her head and immediately had to chase an errant curl behind her ear again. "I asked Bucky, when the rumors came to my attention, but he was adamant I not put an end to them or argue his innocence. And now... he's asking the same about these new rumors. It's difficult for me to play along with anything that hurts his reputation, or yours, especially when it's something so absurd."
Excellent distraction or not, it truly did bother Peggy. Color spotted her cheeks as she fell quiet again, reminding herself that she couldn't bulldoze through the conversation simply because it was uncomfortable. Steve deserved to speak up as well, and they'd figure it out. Together.
