Surprises on surprises, Peggy thought, lifting her chin to blink wide eyes at Steve. She would've thought it incredibly likely for him to make a quick exit as soon as this obligation was discharged, and that last night's debacle would've only fueled his desire to be far, far away from the Capitol and every hideous decadence it represented. Even Peggy had been intending to leave at the earliest available opportunity, and she'd thought to go visit her father as an easy excuse as to why. She'd made such a regular habit of visiting home that no one batted an eye at seeing Peggy board the train to One.
Steve's next words, so quick on the heels of that announcement, could've knocked Peggy over if she wasn't already leaned into this embrace. Honestly, he'd been hesitant to even come sit near her, and now he was offering dinner; not only dinner, but the date they'd talked about like some nebulous prize to be won someday, hazy as a dream and just as unlikely to happen knowing their timing. They were always just... off.
Perhaps that was reason to seize the moment. He was here. She was here. They were regrouping from a disastrous evening. How better to shake off that ugliness than with a night out, just the two of them and nothing but the romance she'd been lamenting the loss of last night. If it went well to expectation, it would be perfect.
Brightening, Peggy nodded. "I would like that very much," she admitted, quiet but entirely pleased with his invitation. Not smiling at Steve didn't seem like an option, and the soft curve of her mouth relaxed some of the tension that had been lingering just at the corners of her eyes. "Thank you."
