I think he already highlighted the key points to hit on, then. He's right, of course, that there could be some danger in going public. They'll know that someone must have spoken to us. The alternative is equally grim in that he'll just be imprisoned without anyone even knowing about it--there is a chance the outcry might be large enough to actually help his case.
I wouldn't put it past them. I'm sure they consider impeding their indoctrination of the next generation a pretty serious crime.
