✸ The Wizarding World's Beguiling Broadsheet of Choice ✸ |
A Moment with Madam Umbridge By Narcissa Malfoy With new information about the origins of a wizard’s magical abilities and the unknown lengths a Muggle-born must go to obtain theirs, the Ministry announced today the formation of the Muggle-born Registration Commission. The Daily Prophet is joined today by the busy woman behind it herself, Madam Undersecretary Dolores Umbridge. Narcissa Malfoy: Madam Umbridge, would you like to explain the Muggle-born Registration Commission to our readers in your own words? Dolores Umbridge: Of course, it would be my pleasure. The Muggle-born Registration Commission is an opportunity for all of those who identify as Muggle-borns to come forward voluntarily to present themselves for an interview. It is an opportunity for these people to act in the best interest of the Magical World. If they care at all about Wizarding kind, the Muggle-borns will comply without necessary force. It is for the good of everyone. We need to seek out these thieves for the betterment of Wizarding kind. NM: Assuming in your investigation that you find they truly did steal magic, of course. Do you think you might find there’s another explanation for this phenomenon the Department of Mysteries has been unable to find at this point? DU: I trust in the Department of Mysteries work, but I think the interviews present the ability to further the research and find all possible explanations for this phenomenon. NM: Was there any one moment that inspired this project? A moment that prompted you to draft that proposal for the Minister of Magic? DU: When the research came out that magic could only be passed from one magical person to another it became clear to me that we must do something. Further fueled by the untimely departure of Former Minister Scrimgeour. Wizarding world has be shaken by yet another change in leadership and with this news being reported about magical genetics, they would look for a strong Ministry response. I wanted to be sure that the magical people did not think the Ministry was not serious about these findings. That even in the tumultuous times of leadership change we are still here for them. I felt it greatly important that people know the Ministry are still concerned about their best interests. NM: I couldn’t agree more. I know as a mother I find it very heartening to hear the Ministry is taking this seriously. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say thank you, Madam Umbridge, for seeing this through. DU: Oh, you are very welcome. We are doing our duty and I know I’m proud to be. NM: What would you say to someone who doesn’t understand why something like this might be necessary? DU: The safety of everyone is important. To leave criminals who stole magic walking around out there is too unpredictable. It is for the benefit of everyone that those who identify as Muggle-born to come in for an interview. Do their duty. Safety of the greater population is important and should be taken seriously. NM: I hope they do. When can we expect to hear more about the commission’s findings? DU: We at the commission are aiming for a deadline for the registration to be completely by August 31, since our school aged children will be off. I know for one I aim to offer any updates along the way. NM: And is there anything else you’d like to say to our readers? DU: I will say again the Ministry is here for you, we have your best interests in mind. This is an opportunity, and if you are muggle-born and care about the magical world are living in that you should voluntarily take part the Muggle-born Registration Commission. We implore you. |
