LEAKY CAULDRON SET ALIGHT By Gwendolyn Vane Death Eaters attacked Diagon in the early hours of the morning, the latest in a string of attacks on the Alley over the last number of weeks. A Dark Mark was first reported shortly after 2 a.m. by locals and DMLE arrived on the scene imminently. The Dark Mark was seen over the Leaky Cauldron, a prominent wizarding establishment and the literal gateway between the wizarding and muggle communities. This Death Eater attack appears to be have temporarily smashed the wall and officials have warned that there have been subsequent difficulties in passing between Diagon Alley and the muggle world. The Leaky Cauldron suffered substantial structural damage as well: a large crack through the floor was created, several fixtures were broken and blasted to pieces, and a fire appears to have originated from the bar. While law enforcement were quick to act, the damage was extensive and is an undeniable blow to a community which has been struggling to adjust to a number of changes. The Wandless presence has placed a strain on Diagon Alley’s bustling atmosphere and the Ministry’s even more recent decision to implement policies to prohibit the help of the wandless was swiftly followed by the publication of a list of local businesses it believed were acting in contravention to this law. Named among those were Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, already the victim of a Death Eater vandalism, and Obscurus Books. While the Leaky Cauldron was not included on this list, its undeniable power as literal and symbolic bridge between the two worlds cannot be denied. By attacking the Leaky, the message is clear: the Death Eaters intend to ensure that the Ministry’s laws are followed. |
