AUROR OFFICE SHAKE-UP: ONE MONTH ON By Betty Braithwaite It’s been just over a month since the radical change in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement which saw the Auror office dissolved. This action came after weeks of misconduct and overzealous employees, reports of disturbances against peaceful citizens and much more. Having spoken to many concerned civilians it became clear that there was an abundance of stories to back up these claims. One such example is the former Auror by the name of Owen Dearborn, currently holding the position of Hitwizard, who had allegedly been confronting a member of the public in a disruptive and aggressive manner on a number of occasions. It was undoubtedly this type of misdemeanour that led the head of the DMLE Corban Yaxley to take such bold action. However, how has this improved our society? With employees from the Hitwizard office still pursuing peaceful individuals rather than the threat of vigilantes and the wandless, further reform is surely needed. “Focusing on the enemies of the Ministry and vigilantes is an ideal way to spend their efforts,” Madam Bellatrix Lestrange, a concerned citizen and respected member of magical society told the Prophet when asked about the situation and her own experience with the heavy-handed style of the former Auror office. England has seen many great moves and bold strides in reforming the Ministry of Magic. The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures announced a ground-breaking agreement with werewolf Fenrir Greyback earlier this month, and the Department for Transportation has been dealing with employee misconduct in an admirably decisive way. These brave and bold actions are signalling what can only be a stronger Ministry, with Minister Thicknesse ushering in these policies to make our society safer. Ensuring that Magical Law Enforcement officials are held accountable is a big part of this, but the Ministry's direction is surely one that benefits all of us. |
