BARNABY SNELL: Welcome back to the Pitch! Baz Snell and Angelus Rosier here with a guest we know you’re going to love. He’s one of the more popular up and coming players in the League. The one and only Keeper for Puddlemere United, Oliver Wood! Welcome to the show, Oliver. OLIVER WOOD: You’ll make me blush if you keep talking about me like that. Thank you, it’s an honour to be here. I’m an enormous fan of the show. BS: Maybe the goal is to make you blush. So! You were a reserve Keeper from 2014 until earlier this year. How do you feel about being bumped up? ANGELUS ROSIER: [barely audible] Quit flirting with Wood, Barnaby. OW: Excited. Grateful that the team believes in me. Nervous, too. I’ve got some big shoes to fill here, and I want to do everyone proud. But the reserves were an incredible time for me, just being able to learn from the other players. I feel very lucky. AR: How do you feel you match up against some of the starting Keepers that have more experience than you? OW: I think I’m ready for it, I think I’m just as good as they are. Experience is important, of course, and I’ve gotten invaluable advice from other players, but I wouldn’t say it’s everything. I’ve known players who were very good very early on. I think there’s something to be said for instinct. You can’t teach that. They shouldn’t get too comfortable out there. They shouldn’t underestimate me. BS: No, I don’t think they should. Who do you think will be your toughest competition this season? OW: Really putting me on the spot, aren’t you? All right. The Magpies are a strong team, especially with Jordan stepping up more in the last year. And I think the Tornados have been a teach to watch out for most years. They’re clever. BS: Speaking of the Magpies, they were one of the five teams to sign their name to a statement condemning the Muggleborn Registration Committee. Puddlemere United signed the statement as well. Now that the MRC is in effect, we’re seeing more and more promotions from League teams to fill in the gaps left by Muggleborn players. How do you feel about that? OW: I think… it’s a difficult time for us. A lot of us are rather close. You get to know your teammates well when you spent so much time with them, you’re like family in some ways, and to see someone lose something they’ve worked so hard for, it’s hard to see. The changes aren’t going to be easy for anyone. AR: Let’s be honest: there’s no real loss here. BS: [disgusted] You can’t be serious. AR: Of course I’m serious. Look at the depth of the players in the reserve system, Oliver among them. There’s no reason to sob over the loss over those that are easily replaced. BS: They shouldn’t have to be replaced. And there was some serious Muggleborn talent in the League. They’ll be sorely missed. AR: Are you done standing on a soap-box? BS: [pause] Let’s let Oliver get a word in. OW: [nervous laugh] Well… I’m with Baz. You’ve got to earn your spot on a team through hard work, dedication, skill… our Muggleborn players did all that. If they’re so easily replaced, why weren’t they replaced before? AR: Well, because no one had the bollocks to do it. Oliver, I do have to ask, however. You worked closely with Undesirable #1. Did you know he’d turn out to be such a terror when you met him when he was eleven? OW: [irritated] He was a great addition to my team, brilliantly talented Quidditch player at an extremely young age. But I’m not here to talk about Harry, so. BS: [uneasy laugh] No, you aren’t. Let’s talk about your fans! You’re undeniably popular and it’s not hard to see why. You’re handsome, talented, funny, the whole package. Our listeners would be sorely put out if we didn’t ask: are you single? AR: Barnaby is asking for himself, of course. BS: I’m not that shameless. AR: And yet you still have that beard. OW: [laughs] I guess my answer depends on whether he’s asking for himself or not. [pause] I’m single, but honestly, I don’t really have time right now. And I like the beard. Are you jealous you can’t pull it off, Rosier? AR: Not in the slightest. You should have seen his facial hair experiments earlier in the year, too. BS: Spoken like a man filled with beard envy, Rosier. [beat] Oliver, you have a very active fanbase in Brazil. If you ever need help with your Portuguese, I know a guy who’s fluent. AR: It’s the guy that can’t hide his hard-on right now, Snell. OW: Maybe you should stop looking and give a guy some privacy. Anyway. I’d love to visit Brazil one day, and thank all of my fans personally. If I get the chance, you think this guy you know would want to be my tour guide, too, Baz? BS: It would be my pleasure. [pause] When we return from the break, we’ll be discussing the importance of two essential moves for a Keeper: the double eight loop and the sloth grip roll. So stay tuned! |
