WHO: Percy Weasley
WHEN: The early morning hours of 6 February
WHERE: Somewhere deep in the Ministry
SUMMARY: Percy runs a fool's errand but cannot help but play the fool
WARNINGS: Emo bureaucracy
Gawain Robards, Alastor Moody, Rufus Scrimgeour ... Percy ticked off these heroes of war, gallant in their idealism and unwavering in their beliefs, on trembling fingertips. Each had ascended to power and each, cut down, were swiftly becoming the whispers of those whose desperation for freedom drove them to reckless acts in order to see the not just the country saved, but especially to ensure the survival of loved ones and self somewhere in there, too. He thought of Oliver at home, quietly mourning his father. He thought of his brothers and his sister, fighting with the vigilantes. He thought of his mother who had lost too much already. So it was just as well that Percy's hand trembled, masking his penmanship. The scroll - entitled WRIT OF INJUNCTION would certainly be seen as something approaching treason by his Death Eater bosses. But treason was warranted when trust was broken with the populace and the sacred ideals of the nation were baldly executed. Treason and rebellion was the only obvious response to the escalation of war within the halls of the Ministry. And Hugo Nott should not be able to so easily ascend to the seat that Gawain Robards died in. The scroll rolled shut on his desk and he rose, slowly walking down the deserted hall to the Elections office. Like him, the late night staff managed a sort of hollow-eyed nod. He stepped up to the desk and returned the greeting. "Heya Weasley, here to start gerrymandering on behalf of the Minister?" drily stated by the hollow-eyed witch, Percy managed not to flinch at the thinly-veiled accusation. "Or maybe you're purging Muggleborns from the voter rolls?" The witch gestured, pointing above her, indicating that they were being surveilled. With his wand, Percy produced another form, this one requesting a listing of voting registered witches and wizards in Hampstead. "At the Minister's request of course," he responded. The scroll made its way to the witch's desk and Percy, holding his injunction tightly took a deep breath, and aimed a Muffliato at the device on the ceiling. He held out the injunction and slid it to the right. "This one's from Peter Parker, an injunction against Hugo Nott ascending to the vacant seat in Tinworth for at least 180 days, so the citizens of the community can put up a new candidate." The witch shook her head. "Tell Mr. Parker he's shouting into the wind." Mr. Parker knew very well he was, but didn't see fit to share his existential dread with the hollow-eyed witch. Percy's wand snapped back and the Muffliato was removed. He offered her one of his brilliant, political smiles. "You're a good worker - others may not see it, but I do. And the Minister rewards loyalty. We'll want the voter registration for the Hampstead district by 9 A." Turning on his heel with a snap, he walked out of the room, shoes clicking against the marble floor. |
