Order of the Phoenix Attack Leaves Five Dead at Magpies/Puddlemere Match By Byron Kettleburn This afternoon, a widely attended Quidditch match between the Montrose Magpies and Puddlemere United was cut short by a brutal attack on spectators and players of both teams. With the Magpies up by ten points, gameplay came to an abrupt halt when members of the vigilante group, Order of the Phoenix, descended on the stadium in Puddletown. Witnesses describe the following events and their stampede for safety as defined by chaos, panic and fear for their lives. Though countless injuries have been reported, five of the match’s attendees were pronounced dead at the scene. Four of the victim’s names have not yet been released. The fifth victim was celebrated Healer, Richenza Selwyn, who was killed while trying to defend players and spectators from the vigilante violence. A representative from St Mungo’s called her death a tragic loss for both the hospital and the public she served. In addition to Selwyn's heroic actions, many witnesses claimed that quick intervention by Death Eaters who arrived almost immediately on scene prevented further death and destruction. “So many more of us would have been killed if someone hadn’t stopped them,” reported Puddlemere fan, Simon Schlepper. “I thought today was going to be my last day on earth. Thanks to the Death Eaters, I’m still alive.” Late this afternoon, the Head of the Department if Magical Games and Sports, Lucius Malfoy, issued a statement: “Quidditch is a sacred tradition that has been enjoyed by the wizarding community for centuries. For the Order of the Phoenix to attempt to destroy the joy and pride that comes with a Quidditch match speaks to their disregard for the people of this country. We are incredibly grateful to the true citizens who intervened and protected the public from the damage the vigilantes were intent on causing. Without them, I can't even begin to imagine where we would be right now.” Malfoy also noted that all future Quiddirch matches have been postponed and the season temporarily suspended pending further investigation. Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Corban Yaxley, has asked anyone with more information regarding the attack or any ongoing vigilante activity to contact the DMLE immediately. |
