Who: Seiko, Maeko.
What: Unpacking, chatting.
Where: Their room in the beach house.
When: Evening the day they arrived.
Why: Clothes need to be unpacked?

Seiko was sat on her bed with her bags piled in front of her staring at them with some suspicion, fully aware that her mother had repacked the bag just before Seiko left, giving her little time to change the clothes. She was pretty sure most of her comfortable and 'normal' clothes may have been replaced by her mother's favored designer brands.

"Hey Maeko-chan!" She said turning to her temporary roommate, "when do you want to do these fireworks anyway?"

Maeko always had to get used to beds, she had back at the dorms as well. They were weird. She was used to the futon at home.

She bounced slowly up and down on the matress, once again getting accustommed to the idea of sleeping so high up, and then started taking things out of her bag and placing them in a small pile next to her. She'd made sure to put pajamas, washing things, clothes for the morning and Rumpelstiltskin and Jorindel near the top of her back so that unpacking wasn't such a big deal.

"Hmm?" She said, turning around. "Any time is great. Whenever we head into town to get them, I guess!"

"Awesome, we'll pop down soon, get Kanaye-kun to lend us a car or something."

she rifled through her bag then frowned, had her mother replaced all her comfortable clothes with new stuff? She pulled a face and blinked down at something small crumpled in her hand. "What...oh god, hey is it normal for your mother to repack your bag with new stuff including underwear? I mean..." she shook her head. "How does she even know my size?" tossing the item back in her bag she swung round to talk to Maeko.

"Sooooo! How is it all going with Kanaye?" she asked bouncing on her bed a little.

"I...don't think so? My mother never has, at least." Maeko said. The second reastion sounded like a rhetoricl one but Maeko was generally pretty terrible at picking up on things like that and tried to answer anyway. "I guess to repack it she'd have to unpack it in the first place. Maybe she found out then?"

She considered peering into Seiko's bag out of curiosity but stopped herself at last minute because it would be impolite.

"Normal, I guess?" She said, thinking. She was pretty determined to describe it as normal. Because dammit, fighting evil clones with a cellphone and a witch in her head should really be the weirdest thing in her life. "I like him a lot, in the last few months he's been nothing but helpful to me but. He's kind of, um, touch-y? Wait, touchy means something else...you know what I mean, though?"

"Ah you are lucky Maeko-chan!" Seiko paused. "Oh yeah she could have just looked at the labels..." she laughed and pulled through her bags of clothes, "Oh wow why has she packed me six bikinis?" she shook her head and gave a fond grin. "My mother is crazy I swear..."

Seiko then lent forwards towards Maeko as she spoke about Kanaye, "I get what you mean, he is pretty touchy feely, I guess that is how he expresses his feelings. I mean like if he can't do it with words?" she nodded sagely.

"Do you really need that many? It's not like you can wear more than one at a time." She dug Rumpelstiltskin and Jorindel out of her bag, lying them at the top of the bed and went back to going through what remained of her things.

"It's probably something like that." She said, turning back to Jorindel the cat doll and looking at it fondly. "Other than that...it's only been a few days but." She looked up, smiling. "It's nice to be together again."

"If I did wear more than one at a time it'd look pretty crazy..." Seiko pinged the back of one of the bikini tops. "I guess she wanted me to have some variety."

She looked at Maeko's cat doll with interest, but was distracted by more pressing issues, well Maeko and Kanaye's relationship. "He is so happy to be back with you, when you two were apart he was in a really bad state. Its good that you are happy too."

Fiddling with her bag she remembered Kanaye's behaviour when he'd come to see her at her room, how unbalanced he had seemed. It was definitely better now, but she was fully aware this wasn't the most normal relationship between her friends. Then again the evil clones and magic phones kind of canceled out any normality there may have been.

"Oh, I guess that makes sense. I only brought the one swimsuit. But it's one I like so-" Maeko noded to finish the sentence.

There was a nagging in the back of her mind when Seiko mentionned the state Kanaye had been in. Being wanted, needed, even was the most comforting thing to her that she could think of and hearing that Kanaye did need her should have made her happy. But since everything she'd slowly started to feel afraid of and suffocated by the idea of being solely and totally responsible for someone else's happiness and welbeing. What she had wanted so desperately before was now something that scared her.

At the same time, being needed so much made her feel a lot less insecure about being second choice. Or whatever choice she was, Shiori certainly hadn't been the first. (She thought she'd been well beyond the point where she'd care about being the second choice instead of just being happy that she was chosen at all but apparently she was ungrateful as well as everything else she was.) It made her feel safe. He wasn't going to run off with Kondo or Tachibana as long as he still needed her, after all.

"I'm glad he's better again. I didn't mean to upset him so much. But I needed to figure it all out. We started dating before just after my place, I wasn't really in the best state at the time."

Seiko watched her friend think as she unpacked her own bags, managing to find her framed photograph of Goro-sama that she lovingly propped up next to her bed.

She wondered quietly why Maeko wasn't smiling or at least seeming excessively pleased, surely having someone need you like that was a good thing? Seiko herself hadn't really been in many proper relationships, rather a long string of improper ones, so she was a little unsure on how they worked when you were with someone you had true feelings for.

"From what I can tell, from what he told me, you were well within your right to need time. Oh yeah! How did you two get together anyway, like right in the beginning? Did he ask you?" She smiled again, trying to bring a little more cheer to the conversation, worrying her friend was thinking too deeply.

Maeko's own packing had nothing in the way of photographs. It had very little in the way of 'personal' things at all, really, aside from her two dolls and the heavy english copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales. (Which, she supposed, was more than personal enough to make up the difference. This book was apparently her soul only made of words written in an achaic version of a stupid language). She had no summer homework left, the only other contents of her bag save for her clothes were her laptop, a first-aid kit and a torch.

"I...he was kind of. Not in a good state at all after my place. I...showed up in a different way from everyone else and he was the one who was around when." She sighed then looked up again, smiling sheepishly. "I went to make sure he was okay and to apologise and he give me, um..." She dug around in her bag for a while before realizing the bracelet was on her arm. She held her arm out, pointing to it. "This. And tried to confess in sign. He, um, got one of them wrong. But I understood what he meant. And it was a nice gesture!"

She laughed. "I asked him if he was joking at first."

"Awww that just so..so nice!" Seiko exclaimed with a sigh and cuddling the designer (and very small) tee shirt she was unpacking to her chest. She lent forwards across her bed to look at the bracelet, and for once feeling a little wistful thinking of how lucky her friend was to have someone like that. Well at least someone who tried to confess in a way that was personal, someone who tried hard for the person they cared about.

"Did you like him for a long time before that?" Seiko asked curiously, returning to her unpacking with a thoughtful expression as she sorted through the unfamiliar clothes that were packed.

"It really was sweet, I guess." Maeko said, thinking back. And then wishing she hadn't, because the whole incident was difficult to disconnect from her dungeon.

She twisted the glass beads of the bracelet around until the smile returned to her face.

"Last year, kind of..." She said, fidgetting with her bracelets some more. "But. I didn't like him exactly before because I was busy being this crazy witch bird owning lady thing."

Maeko was trying very, very hard to joke about the witch. Obviously if she could prove she didn't care about it that meant she didn't care about it, right?

"Either way-" Seiko said quickly, trying to avoid something her friend clearly still found distressing. "Its clear he cares for you very much now, and wants to be there for you." She smiled and waved a finger in the air.

"I'm quite jealous really! Not because of Kanaye-kun specifically!" she shook her head, he was more like a brother, or even a child. "But having someone you care about who also cares about you, it must be really nice." she sighed and toyed with some of the clothes she had not yet unpacked.

"It is, isn't it? I'm still not sure why but...I guess it doesn't matter too much. I'm glad." Maeko said, done with unpacking. She sat cross-legged on the bed, bobbing up and down, and felt around for Jorindel then hugged the cat doll tightly. For once, having forced herself to grow up altogether too fast first for Misaki's sake and then to steel herself against the things that were in paradise, she felt like she was a teenage girl. It was strange but nice.

"It is. I didn't think I'd ever have someone like that." She said cheerfully, smiling. "It really is nice."

Seiko had finished tidying up her clothes, but dug in a smaller bag to pull out a bag of chocolates.

"Want some? I got them to share..." she grinned, Maeko perhaps was not used to being a teenage girl, but Seiko was well aware of how these things worked.

"Ehh and he is a nice guy! I mean he can be a little bit-" she chose her words carefully "energetic, but he's very caring. And he'd do anything for you." she waved the chocolate towards Maeko with a warm smile, feeling that their relationship was perhaps growing a little closer.

	"Ah, I can have one?" Maeko asked, making sure it was okay. After a few seconds she took one, smiling. "He is! He's been nothing but kind to me for a long time now, even when- well, all the time!" Seiko grinned taking a chocolate bar of her own as she unwrapped it she looked to Maeko for a moment.

"He really cares about you, and his friends, its a very admirable trait." she smiled down at her chocolate bar but then looked thoughtful.

"Having someone who understands all this Paradise stuff must be nice too, having him there when things are getting bad... I'm really glad you have that Maeko-chan!"

She still looked thoughtful. "But, besides that...I kind of need to thank you. This group has made me feel really welcome, you, Kanaye-kun, Kozue-chan and Masami-chan, and Tom too! Even Oubai-san has been helpful. Even though this situation is so bad, you've all found time to help me get used to this, to be friends with me." She bit her chocolate as she considered her words. "I'm really glad to have you as a friend Maeko-chan!"

"It is nice." Maeko said after a brief chocolate-related pause. "Having someone around I know I can rely on. It's not really something I'm used to." She smiled. "I'm glad, too!"

"You got help out of Oubai? You must be some kind of miracle worker!" She said, laughing but thien calming down a little. She wasn't upset. But paradise was a subject that deserved to be treated seriously. "It's...it's a horrible situation. But we can't change what's already happenned and we don't know how much power we have to change what's going on. Making sure we make it as easy to deal with as we can is the most important thing right now."

She grinned again. "I'm glad to have you, too. And everyone else."

Seiko lent back nibbling another chocolate bar and gently tossing another one over to Maeko.

"Well he has been pretty nice to me, in his own way." Seiko said with a smile and a thoughtful nod. "It is terrible, but I'm more worried about other people than myself." she shrugged. "I don't want anyone else to be taken in there, to have to face themselves. No one wants that." she bit into her chocolate with a little more feeling than usual.

"I don't know, its such a strange thing. I mean its like...magic exists. How do you even get your head round that..." she laughed ruefully.
