"Nervous?" Masaya said, putting a hand on her shoulder both as a reassuring gesture and for balance as the waves began to hit him harder, making him sway on his feet. It was harder to stand up the farther he went out, with the current getting stronger and the water deeper, and the last thing he needed was to fall on his face.
It was difficult to navigate the pool, it was so crowded. Understandable for a hot day, but it was irritating nonetheless. He was trying to pick his way through rowdy kids and clueless adults, and it was getting on his nerves.
The final straw was the shrieking kids having a splash fight beside him, getting closer together until they were scuffling. One elbowed him, and he jerked away, reacting instantly. "Get off! And get out of my way!"
