Who: Misaki and Renju
Where: Bookstore in town
What: Heart to heart
When: Afternoon some time
Why: Misaki wants to talk to Renju.

Misaki browsed through the mystery section. Her hair was in a braid and she was dressed in capris rather then her normal skirts and a random t-shirt. She didn't look very Misaki-ish, if there was a way for her not to look like her normal self, and, quite frankly she didn't care. She'd been hold up in her room for a while since Maeko had left, trying to pull herself out of a stupor. It wasn't much fun being alone in the big room. She wanted to be out and about. Anything to keep from staring at the blank bed. She'd heard rumors that they were going to give another girl Maeko's side of the room, and she was trying to find out if there was any way to keep that from happening. She didn't want to share that room with anyone else.

Rubbing her neck she ran her fingers over the books and stopped at one. Pulling it out the book, she scanned over the cover and turned to walked over to the small sitting area near some windows. Cracking open the book she started to browse through it, intending to read part of it then buy it. Taking a moment to settle she was surprised to see the form of Renju walking over to a different section. Getting up Misaki decided to follow and stopped when she noticed Renju looking over the books.

"Ah Sonozaki-senpai? I thought it was you. How are you doing?" Misaki asked smiling, and still holding the book.

True to her word to Keiichi, Renju was finally venturing out of the dorms-cram school-convenience store-Butterfly Room quartet of locations she'd been stuck in for far too long. The bookstore, at least, was familiar territory, and she didn't expect to run into anyone else she knew there with the possible exception of Tom, which... well, there were worse possibilities.

She had a few books tucked under her arm, and she'd been about to head to the register when a display had distracted her. Deciding that checking out what the shop was promoting wouldn't hurt, she took a few minutes to peruse the selection.

Which was when a voice from behind her made her tense and whirl around to see its source. Apparently, once again, Misaki had startled her half out of her wits. She quickly calmed herself down enough to respond. "I'm... well enough, Aoi-san. And you?"

"Alright I guess. What are you getting?" Misaki glanced over some to see the books she had on hand and held onto her own detective book. "Oh were you busy? I'm sorry to have bothered you. I just saw you and was wondering what you were looking into."

She smiled some and looked at the display, "You know if you're going to start this series, you should check out at least one of the earlier books in this series. The character's really changed since the start."

Misaki looked over the book that Renju was looking at, "Masami-sempai said she was going to see you. I hope things went well."

"I'm not really interested in it. I was just looking to see what they had on display." Renju shifted uncomfortably, subtly moving the stack around to hide a couple of her new acquisitions. "I'm just buying a few things that..." Her expression settled into a slight frown; she was uncertain of how much to admit to Misaki about how she'd been faring after everything. "... that will be useful over the summer.

"Sakuraba-san did see me a few days ago. It went well." A small half-shrug accompanied this. Although the contents of the conversation had ended up being somewhat awkward, the visit itself hadn't really been remarkable enough to comment on beyond that.

"Oh, I see," she paused and looked at the stack and then at the clock on the wall. "Um...Sonozaki-sempai, do you think we can have some tea or coffee for a bit? I'd like to talk to you if I could about...well what happened."

Misaki looked at her hesitently, "Ah, well that's good. I'm glad to hear things went well."

... and that had sort of been inevitable, really. Renju was a little irritated with herself for not expecting it. There was no sense in running from this, either, though--if she could manage with Tom and Masami, then this shouldn't be a problem, right?

"That would be fine," she said after a deep breath and a short nod. "I have some time this afternoon."

"Great," Misaki beamed cheerfully and offered to carry some of the books.

"So, did Keiichi-kun come to talk to you?" Misaki asked carefully. She wasn't sure why but this was, what she figured would be the best way to break the ice would be something of common ground, thus Keiichi and through extension, cooking club. "He seemed to really want to make sure you were okay after..." After we nearly all froze to death in your dungeon. were words that simply didn't want to come out, and she quickly went to..."after everything that happened."

Misaki looked down some, "So Masami-sempai was teaching me a bit about tea...might be fun to try a new flavor."

"I don't really like tea that much. I think I'll have coffee, if that's all right." It was still somewhat uncomfortable talking to Misaki; even she, socially inexperienced as she was, could feel the awkwardness between them. That place hadn't done anything to make things better.

"And yes, Ito-san did come to see me. It was... helpful, after everything that happened there." She was starting to lose track of who she'd talked to, but that conversation had been one she wasn't about to forget.

"I see, I'm glad he could help you," Misaki said softly and smiled, "Then I think I'll have some hot chocolate. I've never been one for coffee to be honest."

She touched the pages of the book then took a breath before saying, "Renju-sempai...I...I'm sorry. I'm sorry if my place only added to your problems." She looked up at her, "But I'm really glad that we got you back. You...to be honest sometimes I'm not sure what to say to you because you seem so smart and I'm..." Misaki laughed some and smiled, "I'm me."

She looked ahead, "It's funny, I honestly thought out of everyone, you would be the one that didn't wind up there."

"You don't have anything to apologize for. It was no worse than the others." Renju still wasn't entirely willing to admit (even to herself, let alone Misaki) that a few things there had struck particular nerves, but, really, it hadn't changed anything--everything that had happened was inevitable.

She pondered for a moment, then shifted her books again somewhat uncomfortably. The rest of it was somewhat awkward ground to tread, and she wasn't entirely sure what to say to it. "In any case. I don't think anyone's really immune to that place. Everyone has things they won't admit to, or that they can't deal with."

Misaki ran a finger through her hair, "I don't know about that. I thought it was pretty bad, my shadow wasn't...wasn't very nice, and could have hurt people. She acted like a spoiled child really." What did that say about her then?

"That's true, I'm just wondering how we were the ones that were selected for this? I'm sure that other people could have done better, then again others might have done worse. I'm not sure." Misaki glanced at her. "This might seem dumb but...um...I was curious as to the meaning behind the whole place? Do you really feel like...," well there was no easy way to put it, "well, like that? Like how your shadow seemed to imply death, or at least that you feel like you have no direction."

"No one's Shadow is nice. People don't repress pleasant things." Except for half of Tom's, but that was besides the point, really. She shifted her books uncomfortably, feeling a bit on-edge about the general topic of discussion. She was still a bit afraid of her Shadow, and how close she'd been to it just before...

"So, yes, something like that. Or I did, in any case." Another topic she was uncomfortable with. The trouble with Paradise (well, one of too many to count, really) was that once the team came to the rescue, you were essentially baring your deepest thoughts, a part of your mind you wouldn't even let yourself look at (or else it wouldn't exist at all), to a bunch of near-strangers. Small wonder people rarely talked about theirs after the fact. "It's... better, now."

"This is true, but I guess the more we expose parts of ourselves the better we get to know and change those parts and grow up right? It'll make us better adults in the end," Misaki suggested cheefully trying to take the edge of the the topic.

She nodded, "I'm glad. You really are a strong person Renju-chan. I...i don't mean to embaress but you are. It must have been very hard having all that locked inside of you." She looked thoughtful as she went over to a counter to order for them, "Do you think that there could be such a thing as a persona that didn't go into a shadow?"
