WHO: Maeko and Keiichi
WHAT: Discussion.
WHEN: Monday, after school.
WHERE: Hallways at first?
WHY: Keiichi's worried. About a bunch of things.

As the seconds ticked away to class letting out for the afternoon, Keiichi wasn't thinking about cooking. Nor was he thinking about girls. Okay, the last bit was untrue, but the girl he was thinking about wasn't in his usual way of thinking about the opposite sex.

No, Keiichi was...concerned with the behavior of his classmate in the group's latest descent into Paradise. Sure, Kanaye was annoying...but he didn't deserve most of the crap Maeko gave him. Nor really did she deserve the crap he gave her.

Throw in her...peculiar closeness to Misaki-chan, and the girl was raising enough issues for one lifetime for the Cooking Club president.

As the bell rang to signal the end of classes, Keiichi rose from his chair, walking over to Maeko's desk. He tried to look as serious as he could. "Akuba-san," he asked, quietly, "can we talk outside for a moment?"

"Ito-san?" Maeko said, putting her notebooks and pencil case into her satchel and looking up. Talking outside likely meant it was something to do with that place which in turn probably meant it was fairly urgent. "That's fine. I can't be too long, though. I start work soon."

She closed the clasps on the satchel and lifted it, nodding to confirm that she was done and ready to leave the room to speak.

"It'll be quick, I promise." Well, he didn't really want it to be quick, nor did he expect it to be quick, but he could hit the key points if he had to.

Stepping neatly around the desk, Keiichi pulled the door open, holding it for her. "Just worried about a few things, that's all."

Understatement, that one.

"Okay then. Thank you." Maeko said, going through the door and waiting outside.

"So what are you concerned about?"

How he said this would be the difficult part. She was very protective of Misaki, that much was clear. Leading with that wouldn't be the best approach at all.

So, instead, he led with what was likely the major concern.

"Look. I know you don't like Kanaye," he whispered, glancing back and forth to make sure no one was coming. "And outside of that place, that's fine. If we're going to be honest, I don't like him much either."

Keiichi made a face that indicated that fact quite clearly.

"But when we're in there, please don't. I'm going to talk to him about it eventually if I can find him too. It's too serious in there."

Maeko was a little surprised. That was what all this was about? She nodded.

"I understand. While we're there I'll treat him as a comrade as long as he's willing to do likewise." She said. It was probably for the best anyway. No matter what she thought of Kanaye personally the fact that Misaki would be safer if they worked together properly.

"Thanks. I appreciate it. I'll talk to him soon, I promise."

Well. Now, to bring it up or not? Really, it was sort of inevitable.

"I...also appreciate you trying to protect Aoi-san from him," Keiichi offered. "You two must be really close, huh?"

That was obvious, of course, but he was hoping for some information on the hows and whys.

"We're friends." Maeko said, a little too firmly. She decided to elaborate quickly so it didn't sound weird. "We're in different years but I've known her since elementary school."

She wasn't sure where he was going with this. The wording seemed to suggest that he agreed Misaki needed to be protected from Kanaye but she remained guarded.
