Who: Toru and Hana
What: Impromptu gym-skipping and checkups
Where: The nurse's office
When: When Toru ought to be in gym class.
Why: Someone got punched in the face.

Toru hadn't even bothered to make the cursory effort to show up in gym class this time. As soon as class 1-B had stepped out of the room, he dashed off in the opposite direction, towards the nurse's office. Hana Ozaki wasn't one of those people you disobeyed. According to tales, she could pick bullets out with her teeth. And was possibly a vampire. Though the veracity of these things was doubtful, Toru nonetheless thought that they lent credibility to how scary the nurse was when angry.

She was also the most beautiful woman in the school, according to his opinion.

Soon enough, Toru's long legs had carried him the distance to her office, and very nearly past it, such was his hurry. It was only his reflexes that allowed him to catch the door handle to both stop himself and let himself in, and swung into the door in a movement that could have been graceful, had anyone but him executed it.

This being taken care of, he sat down in the closest chair to await the nurse.

The nurse, as it turned out, had been there the whole time, huddled off to a corner and greatly occupied with her aquarium. She was cooing to the turtle, muttering something about boots, and sounding increasingly more dejected as time wore on. Eventually she grew too frazzled to continue, straightening and looking sulkily upon the rest of her office.

And Toru, who was now sitting in it.

"Oh! Ishinomori-kun!"

Instantly more cheerful, she shuffled over to the chair, peering appraisingly down at his blacked eye.

"And how did this happen? Bullies again?"

He had initially not seen Hana fussing over her turtle, and once he had, he had decided against interrupting her. Now she was more interested in the eye than the turtle, and Toru hadn't had to do a thing.

"Sorta... a-a friend's brother punched me in the face. I wasn't fast enough to dodge it very well..." he said with a blush. School staff certainly weren't going to get the whole story. But this version was safe enough, right? And enough to get them off of his back.

"A friend?!" Hana seized Toru's chin, turning it left and right to inspect the bruise from every angle. "What kind of friend lets their brother hit you in the face?!" She huffed as she rose, in order to drive her point home, then went to go rifle through her medical cabinet.

"So which friend was it?" she asked, carelessly tossing this and that over her shoulder or reaching in to shove the contents of entire shelves to one side. "I hear that Satou boy in third year moved in with you! Some of the third year girls were very disappointed to see him take a drop in social status. I bet he was taking out his frustrations on you."

With Hana's hand firmly holding his face in place, Toru stayed stock-still. "He, er... he wasn't there.... th-the brother showed up on his own, actually..."

Even after she'd left for the medicine cabinet, he remained in the same position. A stray bottle half-filled with aspirin hit him in the chest, but he still didn't move. "Not Satou-kun. H-he's... very kind to me, to tell the truth. It was..."

Toru paused. Would saying anything cause more trouble for Kazuya? Then again, how would talking to a school nurse inform a man who was well out of school? It was worth a shot. "I-it was Arai Kazuya-kun's older brother. He was angry at me for spending time w-with Kazuya-kun..."

"Arai-kun?" She paused her cupboard-disruption to look, surprised, back over her shoulder. "Well it's no wonder, then! Look at the company he keeps." She went back to her rummaging and emerged, finally, with an ice pack and a... compact?

"Here~!" She shoved the icepack rather ungently onto his eye, possibly causing more harm than help. "Speaking of violent friends, are you still hanging out with that strange group? I barely see any of you kids anymore! What's going with all of you?"

"I think he keeps that kind of company because they're the ones who aren't afraid of his brother-" He caught himself too late. Toru hadn't meant to say that out loud; after all, it was a thought best kept to himself.

"I-I mean... Kazuya-kun... he isn't a bad person. Quite the contrary!" This sounded insufferably weak, but it was the best Toru could manage. Moments later, there was an ice pack being shoved rather roughly into his eye, and he had other things to think about.

"...thank you, Ozaki-sensei..." If his words sounded strained, it was because he was gritting his teeth, trying not to feel too uncomfortable. "The Anti-Bullying Club? Yeah, I am... We've been... busy. With outreach things. H-helping students in trouble. That kind of thing."

"Is that so?" She asked rather airily, collapsing into a chair across from Toru. She tapped her chin thoughtfully. Something seemed to occur to her and she leaned forward excitedly.

"The way I heard it, your group is a cover for selling drugs. 'That's ridiculous!' I said! And it is, because if you were selling drugs in the bathroom then I would have found you already while looking for gossip~! So, what do you really do?!"

She sprang up from the chair and went back to rifling through the cabinet again, this time producing a paper with a lot of scribbling in sharpie. Variations of "Anti-Bullying Special Outreach Club" had been rewritten and crossed out in every corner of the page. Hana narrowed her eyes.

"It's an anagram, isn't it?!"

Had Hana's guess been any closer to the truth, Toru would've squirmed. As it was, she was still comfortably off-base, and he felt as though it was safe to keep talking.

"It's nothing like that. The Outreach Program is for looking after at-risk students... l-like, hikkikomoris and severely bullied kids, or people with bad family situation..."

Toru's smile at this point was the most uncomfortably insincere one possible. "If we ever have anything to do with drugs, it's keeping students off of them! Th-that's a problem we're trying to ad- anagram what?" The scribbled-on paper had just caught his eye.

"I-it's not an anagram! We're just a club that cares for its members!"

Hana's eyes only narrowed further.

"Then why," she demanded, "Does your club name rearrange to 'Pale Ugly Cannibalistic Butcher Lou'?! HM?!"

Looking frighteningly self-assured, she awaited Toru's answer, pointing wildly to one of the more illegible anagrams on the list.
