Who: Everyone's Invited, Toru has a good excuse not to attend.
What: It was going to be a picnic but then SOMEONE went missing and it turned all SERIOUS
Where: The skypark
When: Saturday, after school
Why: OH GOD WHERE IS TORU

Maeko helped Misaki carry the food they'd brought up to the skypark. The artificial plastic cherry trees were in bloom, as they always were. A few picnic tables were dotted around. Maeko pointed at one and they started setting up. Maeko took out her phone, sending massages to everyone they'd invited and adding the word 'URGENT!' to the end. This had started out as an elaborate prank on Kou but now they did actually need to meet. They had something to discuss.

She looked around, looking to see if anyone was here already in the rest of the park.

Misaki was not in a happy mood. At first she had just thought that Toru had been ill, or just avoiding her. He had darted off in the arcade and since then she had not seen him. When she got to school he wasn't in his desk. Now it had been at least three days since she had last seen him and she was starting to worry. He wasn't on line either, but she didn't know where he lived, and had only gotten his number through one of the online players that had gotten it from Toru himself. Which lead her to believe either it was a fake number, or something was wrong.

"Do you think it might not be what we think Maeko-chan? I mean, what if I'm wrong? What if those girls are wrong...." she hated to think Toru was going to be in danger. That world...that place...it scared her.

Kanaye shuffled slowly to the picnic bench, waved at the girls, and sat down. He had been in a meeting with his father when he received the text. Him skipping out in the middle was nothing new, but he knew he was gonna get chewed out when he got home.
"Misaki-chan, Maeko-san, what's up?"

Misaki was sitting down by now looking glommy. She let out a sigh and then looked up, "Oh Hello Satou-senpai. Nothing good I'm afraid, but I don't know if it's something to worry about or...."

She shook her head some, "Maybe we're over reacting. I'm glad to see you here though...have...have you seen Toru-kun anywhere? He's the boy that helped me with the cookiemon when we were at the arcade. He hasn't been in class, and I haven't seen him online."

"It might not be anything to worry about." Maeko said, clarifying. "I checked his shoe locker, there's nothing there. So that's different from Sato and Oubai-san's cases. Still, someone vanishing like this isn't something we can ignore."

"So...So what do we do Maeko-chan? I mean...Oubai senpai...if we had not found him he..." she looked down and scared. "Do you think that Toru-kun could end up like that? I know he was quiet and he got scared around other people."

Misaki's eyes widen and she covered her mouth some, "What if I did this to him? I mean, I was a bit pushy when I asked him to come back to the arcade with me some time? Oh....this is terrible. I wish we knew how to get in contact with his family."

"Misaki-chan, relax~. It isn't your fault." Kanaye frowned. This girl had the self-esteem of a dead fish. "We just need to find him and rescue him, like we did with Kou."

"I don't think we should jump to any conclusions. If we just go in there and look around without knowing he's there or where he is it could be dangerous. We don't know what else is in that place. The things in Kou's Hospital were stronger than the things in the gym. There might be even stronger ones in there, we need to be careful."

She nodded, as if to confirm this to herself. Safety took priority.

"Let's wait until everyone else shows up. We can decide what we need to do next as a group and someone might know more than we do."

"Right..." Misaki nodded affirming Maeko's comment. She bit her lip and looked away. "I'm sorry. It's just...after Sato-senpai's vanishing and what happened to him, I...I worry that something bad will happen to other people that vanish."

She looked at the two older students, "What's making this happen? First Sato-san, then Oubai-san, now Toru-kun. It doesn't seem normal. Even at the meeting we had with Oubai-senpai, there wasn't much that we could gather. He didn't remember anyone. I wish that we had some sort of clue."

"Maybe...that police officer? She's doing an invistagion into Sato-san's death. Maybe she knows something. I should go find her and ask what's gonig on with that. She might tell me something, maybe...I know she frequents the coffeeshop a lot." Misaki pointed out. "Do you think she talks to the owner about it? Kiyoshi-san seems to like to watch a lot of those investigative Tv shows. She might tell him things about the case, you know."

"What? No! They wouldn't tell you anything and you'd probably be considered suspicious for asking. They wouldn't believe our story unless we showed them, and even then, it'd probably just waste our time. We'd have to show the other world to every single person we wanted to believe us, which would take time off from actually rescuing the people."
Kanaye looked at Misaki. "That Kiyoshi guy from the coffee shop? She might tell HIM something, maybe, if she's tired, but it'd be easier to get something out of the cop then that guy."

"It's not that suspicious if we word it properly." Maeko said, thinking. She suddenly changed her body language and tone of voice.

"'Um...Um...Detective-san? I-I heard you were looking into Sato-kun's death and- and...someone at school was saying the guy who killed him might come back! T-that's not true, is it? It's safe to go to school, right?'" She said, her voice a lot meeker than it was before. She snapped back again, shaking her head.

"Something like that. I can't do it, though. She already spoken to me."

"...Two things. One: Talk like that more often, it makes you cuter. Two: Uh huh, and who's to say that she won't just say something like 'We don't know who he is, but we have some ideas and will find him.' What's the chances of her expanding on those ideas?" Kanaye asked harshly.

But then how do we know what's going on Satou-senpai? We can't get anything out of Oubai-senpai because he can't remember, and it's no good trying to go back there. I just don't want to have a friend hurt by that place! It seems really weird, like something way off about it. Why does it even exist. Oubai said he didn't just walk in there, but we don't know if Sato did! And if he didn't just go in there someone forced him in. He DIED in there Satou-senpai! Toru-kun could too if we're not careful!" Misaki shot back then realized what she was doing. People wouldn't like her if she argued back. She looked down again and said softly.

"Sorry...I got carried away there. But if we don't do something...we need to find out who's doing this. We can rescue people all we want, but someone keeps putting people in there! I'm sure of it." Turning some Misaki looked at Maeko and smiled slightly, "Humm...maybe...someone like...well this girl that goes to my brother's school, her name is Emi-chan. She's a bit snooty but...maybe if I asked Tomako-otouto he'll ask her to ask Detective-san for us?"

"I know that, Misaki-chan," Kanaye said gently. "but we can't ask a cop for the information. We'd have to find out ourselves. If you insist, we could try to ask her with that little girl, but I doubt we'd get much."

((IGNORE GANT I USED THE WRONG ACCOUNT @@))

"If it's an excuse then that's not something we can help, but its better than not getting any information at all. Using a young girl would probably make it more believeable." Maeko said, ignoring the 'cuter' comment.

"Don't worry, Misa-chan. If someone's doing this then we'll find them and make them stop. Maybe if Toru is there he'll remember more than Oubai-san did. Whatever's going on, we won't let any more people die to that place."

She sighed. "But that includes us, too. We need to plan as carefully as we can on this side to make sure we come back from that side in the same amound of peices we went in in. I think if there's any chance at all of getting information from that officer we need to take it."

Misaki nodded some and smiled at Maeko, "We can find information out too Satou-san, but if we don't know where to start looking for it...I mean...how many books or blogs do you know of that can tell us about a weird world that you go to by opening up...a door the wrong...way...Hey!"

She looked at Maeko and Kanaye with a smile, "I just realized something. The only way for Sato san and Oubai-san to go there was if someone told them how to get into that world right? Well Someone had to find out and start the rumor. We should try to find out who started the rumor at school and see if it works outside of the school. That way we can know if the world is connected only to the school or if it's all over the place."

Kanaye smiled. "Now that's what I want to hear. It'll be long and arduous, but we will learn something after we're done, and we'll be a couple steps closer to solving the case." Kanaye applauded. "Good job Misaki-chan! Great idea!"

"Thanks Satou-senpai! And I know who to ask! The girls that are always hanging out by the bathroom. They seem to know alot of things that happen around the school, I'll talk to them when I get the chance." Misaki smiled happy that Kanaye thought her idea was a good one.

Later than expected, Kouchisei arrived at the skypark. He'd not come since he was little. The layout had changed. It was updated and modern, with an ice-cream stall to his right. He was standing at the entrance, gazing in surprise.

And he was lost.

Kiriko was also late to the scene, but apparently not lost. She looked more annoyed than anything - not unusual for the girl, but today she looked it moreso than normal.

"Akuba-san," she demanded as she approached, "Next time you should leave your phone on after sending out an 'urgent' text. I wasn't going to come, but you said it was urgent, so please don't tell me you're just going to waste my time with a picnic or something stupid like that wince I came all the way down here to ask you: What's going on?"

From Misaki raising her hand to Kiriko arriving from behind, and then Kanaye's derisive tone, Kou was frightfully coming to realise he'd been lied to. His heart was beating faster. A crowd? It was supposed to be a small meeting. He didn't enjoy crowds. It was better to be outside one, where the distance made him feel safe.

He looked at Maeko. Not wanting to do the impolite thing, he went over and hung around the outside of the group.

"Misaki-chan. Kiriko-san."

"This is ridiculous," she said with a sigh. "What, are we just going to monitor how many sick days everyone at school takes from now on? Are we going to go storming in every single time somebody misses a couple days? Stuff happens. Maybe he fell and hurt himself and is taking a few days off for bedrest. Besides, even though he wasn't at school, I'm pretty sure I saw him online."

Here, she paused to suppress a smirk.

"Matsuri?"

Kou didn't enjoy MMORPGs. They were too restrictive and he preferred the real world. What use would he have for a MMORPG when he needed to study at university? He wasn't Toru.

He shrugged at Misaki's question. He didn't really know the answer to that.
