Entry tags:maeko, misaki

Who: Misaki and Maeko
What: If you guessed talking and making up, you guessed right
When: Evening of the date
Where: Dorm room, because where else can you chatter.
Why: Because well, they can both be dumb at times.

Misaki walked home with a group of girls from the cafe. They were all chatting and laughing as she listened about their boyfriends and small things that really didn't seem to matter that much to her. Her mind was focused on where it had been all night, Shojiro's talk and Kin's suggestions. She was lost in her own thoughts when one of the girls Yuri tapped her on the shoulder.

"Hey Misaki-chan, we're here."

"Oh," Misaki nodded seeing the dorm and smiled, "Right, see you all later."

She waved and walked up the stairs quietly, her cat tail swished back and forth dusting the stairs as she went. Misaki had to wonder exactly what the dorm leader would thing upon seeing her dressed like this, she decided she would rather not take the chance.

Hitting her floor she pushed open the door to the hall and peeked in. No one was out and she crept up to the door to open it. Pausing some she pushed it open slowly and took off the ears and carefully pulled off the costume as she hung it up in her steamer trunk.

"You are worrying because Kanaye-san is a bit...different right?" "I heard rumors that he drinks a lot, but then again he is a student, when I was here people did that, it isn't unusual." "If you are tactless about her boyfriend she is going to get a bit annoyed isn't she? I mean if she said something about Keiichi you'd be upset?" Sho's words echoed in her mind and she rubbed her neck some thinking about it.

It was true, if someone said something regarding Keiichi she would feel rather put upon, and she suspected that Maeko probably felt the same way. He was the first guy that asked her out, the guy that she had crushed on last year. Who was she to tell her who to date and who not to date. Misaki shivered some thinking about his touch on her shoulder then shook it away. She had more to focus on.

Kin's comments about the responsibility of a boyfriend regarding Gendou were that she was supposed to try to understand the person, but not push her own views on someone else. Or more or less, he figured that Gendou had to fall on his face to see what he did wrong. Maybe that was what Maeko was doing. Even so, it still felt weird to her, but who was she to figure that.

"But she forced herself to like you, but now really does right? Maybe that is just her way of doing things."'

"Maybe she does like him," Misaki muttered softly and sighed. She didn't feel the spark she thought she was supposed to when she kissed Maeko. She cared so much though, she just didn't want to see Maeko hurt by him, and a part of her knew that he was eventually going to disappoint her in some ways.

She looked at the clock, it was getting late, and a rush of fear went down her spine. Was she working late? Did someone stop her on the way home...?

What if that person came back and...No, no whoever has been doing this doesn't know where we work, so...so they wouldn't come after us. I just have to calm down. She's on her way home, she'll be fine...

Even so, Misaki pulled her jacket on over her pjs and grabbed a pair of sandals to walk in. She picked up her phone, and one of the heavy fans she now used and headed for the door with the intent of going to check on Maeko...just in case.

Once Kanaye had gone towards the boy's dorm, Maeko headed inside. She expected either an empty room or a torrent of passive-agressive abuse the econd she openned the door and she wasn't particularly looking forward to either.

What she hadn't been expecting was Misaki armed and ready to strike.

"What." She said flatly, raising a hand to cover her face and bracing herself just in case.

"Maeko-chan...Oh, oh thank goodness. I was worried that you were out on your own tonight. There's been talk about some older guys from the college stalking girls coming home from town. My boss had us walk home in groups tonight." Misaki said lowering the fan.

"Ah..." she went over to the desk where she had put some items, "Here...I brought you home somethings to eat. And ah...got out your slippers."

She played with her hair, "And...And I talked to Shojiro-sensei today, and um...Asabi-sempai a bit earlier. I...I just wanted to applogize. I didn't mean to hurt you with the comments that I was making. I was just...." Come on Misaki tough it out "I was just a bit disappointed that you wern't going to return what I was feeling..."

Misaki looked up but smiled some softly, "But that's okay. I...Sensei got me thinking today. We were talking about a lot of things and well, I just wanted to say I'm sorry if I've been hurting you, or making things harder for you and sempai. I just don't want you to be hurt or disappointed in what happens."

"Ah...so, I just wanted to say I'm going to just let you do what you want with Sempai and ah...I'll just be here when you need me," Misaki said softly and looked up at her, hoping that it was a good sorry.

"...oh." Maeko said, sighing. She was a little surprised. But returning to normal instantly and ignoring pervious problems? Was what she did. "It's okay, I came back with Satou-senpai anyway. And the security have been more alert since the incident."

"Oh, thanks! You didn't need to but thank you." She said, checking in her mirror. She was right, her hair had looked awful after all. Oh well, Kanaye hadn't seemed all that bothered by it. "It's okay, we don't really need to talk about it anymore."

She pulled out her hairtie and began to attempt to brush her hair at the same time as changing into pajamas.

"It's fine." she fastenned the last button and moved on to putting her hair into two braids so it didn't tangle while she slept. "You said it yourself, right, that he really meant it? I don't think senpai'd hurt me."

She turned and smiled. "Thank you. I'll do the same for you and Ito-san, okay?

Misak nodded but wondered about that, she went over and very carefully helped Maeko fix the braids so that they hung right down the center. She felt a bit of worry as she spoke slowly.

"So how was your date then with him? You should have at least called me to tell me you were going to be out late, please." Misak asked her and smiled softly, "After what's been happening I don't want something to happen to you."

She was thinking about the question and said, "He means it, but...Maeko-chan, I'm just a bit, I'm just a bit worried about how he shows it. I know the last time I brought up Shiori with him, he got really angry with me and started to cry and stuff. It..." she wasn't sure how to put this properly but did it in the best way she could. "It...would the word unnerved me be okay? I, I understand being upset about something, or about being hurt by someone. But...but don't people get over it? I know it hurt Keiikun for a while, but he still will talk about Kozue-chan, he admits it's a bit odd at times, but he'll still talk about and to her. Maybe that's just Sempai's way, but still..." ...the words left unspoken were simply 'But still I don't want you getting into a mess with him where he's going to treat you like that.'

"It went well enough. I didn't have time to get ready because work overran because... -It went well. We went to the skypark, it's nice to be there in summer."

She sighed, sitting down on her bed. "They're not realy comparable. Kondo-san's left people before. Even if he didn't believe the rumours Ito-san had to have been bracing himself for it somehow, even if her didn't realize he was. And Kondo-san actually broke up with him, Watanaka-san just vanished and everyone was worried sick." She nodded to herself. "And people attach different weights to things on top of that. Think about it, Kondo-san wou'dn't be too bothered if she broke up with someone but wouldn't you feel a lot worse if you and Keiichi broke up? It's hard to define a 'normal' with people, especially over things like that."

She smiled, curling up around her bear. "Besides, I don't really intend to leave him anyway so..."

Misaki nodded slowly and "Why did work over run? I thought that that girl that came in for lunch with her friend was supposed to be working there with you? She left and said she was on her way to work."

Misaki joined her on the bed and drew up her legs, "Can you really brace yourself for it? I honestly didn't think Kozue-chan was going to leave him, but he was happy at first with her, so...You know..." She wrapped her arms around her legs and looked at Maeko, "Shiori-chan when I talked to her said she was stressed over something. I don't know what it was but...I kind of wonder if it was that Satou-sempai was moving to fast."

She thought a bit and nodded but added, "Well yes, but I'd still be friends with him. And sure it would hurt a lot, but I would get over it and not make a huge deal about not talking to him. It was different with us, I guess, because you've been my friend longer. But still, I worry that he's being a bit...'dramatic' about it at times? I can see getting upset and hurt, but..."

"The thing is, I don't know if Shiori-chan wanted to break up at first. But...you're not intending on marrying him are you Maeko-chan? I mean what happens when you go to college? Is he expecting you to join him where he's going? Or..." She rubbed her neck some. "I keep thinking of my niichan, Hikaru, how this one girl was really really attached to him in his last year at school here and she was obessed to the point that he got scared and broke up with her and she STILL followed him to college. Thankfully he finally got her to stop, but not before telling her he was going to go to the police about it."

She shivered some at the memory, "She would send me text to give to him when he didn't pick up his phone."

"It was because of the train. Someone j- The train was late."

She caught herself trying to pick at her hands for once and didn't, instead curling more tightly around the bear and burying her nose and mouth in the back of its head, peering over it.

"You can brace yourself for pretty much anything and it's a good idea to. Keeps you safe. But I'll deal with problems as they come, it'd just cause more problems to try any fix an issue I don't know exists."

"...what." Wasn't that...kind of a weird question to ask when they'd only been dating for a month? "When he graduates and goes to college I guess we'll stay in contact if that's what he wants, just like I'll stay in contact with you."

She shook her head. "I'm sure he wouldn't do something like that."

Misaki paused, "Maeko chan, what is it. You keep pausing like that? Is something bothering you?"

She looked confused a bit but nodded slowly, "That's true, but even if you brace youself, you can't just..you can't just keep bracing. I mean in time you would have to confront whatever it was. I guess it's like a math problem, you can't just leave it unfinished just because you brace yourself to do the caculations."

Misaki nodded, "Yeah I know but..." she played with her hair not wanting to add, 'but will that be enough for Sempai?' and instead just smiled some, "I guess that will work. I mean you could always sent web videos and such."

"Yeah, probably not," she said thinking 'I'm sure that he would considering how he sees things.' She quickly changed the comment, "Oh um...speaking of my brother, So, he mentioned to me this character that you...might like." Misaki giggled some, "I got you something when I was heading home with the group I was with."

She got up and went over to her jacket and pulled out a small wrapped packet. Inside was a anpan that had the image of a cartoon character 'Anpan man' on it.

"...someone jumped on the tracks." Maeko just about choked out, hiding her face fully in bear. She moved the bear away to breathe after a few seconds, seeming to compose herself again. "It's not like I knew them or anything. I didn't even see it."

"Maths has nothing to do with It-san and Kondo-san but you don't leave it unfinished. You go in expecting it to be difficult. And then if it is difficult you're not disappointed.

"Huh? Oh man, this guy!" Maeko grinned and nodded. "I never got to watch the cartoons but I went to go see one of the movies once, it was great!"

Misaki's face paled, and she had been using that...Her arms quickly went around Maeko and gave her a tight hug and nodded, "It's...It's okay. That's a horrible thing to have happened."

"Well that's true, but it's kinda silly if the problems are really simple to solve and somehow they get over blown you know," Misaki said softly and she laughed, "I'm just trying to find an example that will make sense to you Maeko-chan. But if things get too difficult, I guess...asking for help isn't a bad thing either."

Misaki beamed some, "Then you'll like this..." She fished out some peices of paper in the wrapping, "Tada, two all access tickets to the Anpan man museum. It's a train ride away and we'd probably have to stay over night at a hotel, I thought you'd like to go to the opening of a new exhibit they had."

"It's bad. But it's selfish for me to care about it this much. It should be his friends and family. Or the people who had to see it." She shrugged, having apparently gotten over it.

There was sudden rage in the "What do you mean 'make sense to me'" that followed but it was gone within seconds. "Let's just not talk about it."

Maeko smiled and thanked Misaki politely. She wasn't comfortable at all recieving gifts. Especially when they hd just fought. It felt like her friendship was being commodified. How could Misaki even afford to spend money of frivolities like this, did she not intend to pay the rent?

"It's not selfish of you at all Maeko-chan. It shows tht you're a careing person. I think even the police who have to deal with it probably care too. He was a person," Misaki said softly and hugged her.

"I...I just mean like, ah...you know how you have a math problem and how if one person explains it to you it seems like you can't get it because the way they discribe it doesn't make sense to you because it's their way of discribing it and that's how they understand it, but like if say another person explains the same problem to you in a different way and it makes sense how that answer came about, because they way the explained it, this other second person, its something that you can follow because you share a similar way of seeing the math problem. That's all I ment by that." Misaki tried to wave it off quickly and nodded looking down. She still felt ignoring a problem was going to be a bad thing.

Misaki smiled, "I'm glad you liked them, some of the customers liked some of the costumes I was wearing so I sold them to them after work. I can just make another one. So in payment they gave me those, I mentioned that I my best friend really liked Anpan."

Maeko shook her head. "It's fine, I'm just being overemotional. Don't worry."

That explaination was confusing and lost on Maeko. So the implication was what she was too stupid to understand. She went back to sulking into her bear.

"Thank you. We'll go during summer sometime, okay?"

Misaki shook her head, "That's not being overly emotional. Anyone would be upset after hearing or seeing that."

Misaki noticed this and quickly tried something differnet. "Ah...You know when your at work right? And you're training someone to learn how to use the register? Well wouldn't you say your way of training them is differnet then say the way your boss trains them? It's a different approach, right. And you would use a differnt approach then I would to solve a math problem. That's all I'm saying is that differnt people use differnt ways to solve their problems, and sometimes people leave the problem unfinished so it just sort of festers there..."

She rested her head on Maeko's shoulder, "Sorry, I guess the way I explain things is confusing."

Misaki nodded, "Yeah, it would be a lot of fun. We can kinda not think about things for a bit. You know. Not worry as much?"

She nodded to herself. "Speaking of, I probably need to get a new swimsuit this summer. I've had my old one since middle school. You want to go shopping together and help me pick one out?"

"Oh, humm, sure! You haven't changed it since then? It still fits? Wow, I had to get one at the end of Middle school though Im due for a new one, this old one is fading."

Maeko nodded, glad to be on a happier topic. It'd be nice to be back in a place that wasn't so huge and intimidating but she wasn't looking forward to spending time translating again. Her hands still hadn't healed fully from back then when she'd been willing to tear them off to escape that language.

"It probably doesn't fit any more. I grew a lot taller over winter, I think." Maeko laughed. "About time, right? I think you were taller than me for a few months last year."

"Oh." Maeko refused to say anything else until Baba Yaga's sudden frantic screaming of 'He's upsetting you? I'll crush his fucking skull.' calmed again. "Ito-san won't take you anywhere?" She shruffed and grinned. "Well I will if he won't. Want to make a day out out of the swimsuit shopping? If there's any movies you want to see or anything we could go to the cinema first."

Misaki tipped her head some, "Hey if you're going home that means helping your dad a lot right? Um...I do have this aloe cream that you can use. I got it for your hands but um...we were having trouble talking I didn't give it to you because I thought you would be upset with me getting it. It's supposed to help wtih scabbing and stuff."

Getting off the bed, Misaki pulled out several magazines that she had that were fashion with summer clothing, including Bathing suits and brought them over to the bed to show Maeko. She blushed some. "Maybe, I don't notice these things, but I'm glad you're taller then me though. You're definately the stronger of the two of us."

Misaki blushed some, "It's not that he won't, it's just that he's been busy with his dad and things for the club. The girls won't leave him alone now that he's back as leader alone, apparently I kept them out of his hair or something." She grinned and giggled happily claping her hands, looking happier then she had in a long while. "Yes! That would be great! Oh, um, but you pick the movie okay? This should be a day for you too! "I guess." She shrugged. "Huh, I guess I should have ealized you'd have something like these."

"Geez, that's still no excuse. You can find time for him and you have a job." She thought for a second. "Not really. I don't really see movies much so I don't really know what I like...oh, you want it to be just us? If she'd accept I think it might be nice to spend time with Kondo-san. Or with Sonozaki-san maybe. "That's not good Maeko-chan, they could get infected and get worse," Misaki said softly and thought a moment then went to her dresser and got out a pair of gloves that were fitted. "Here, I know it's not much, but like...if they're opening up for whatever reason, maybe the skin is cracking. You could wear these at night with the lotion. My aunt did that when she had really really bad dry skin and it helped."

Misaki laughed, "Well it's not for just looking at, I study them to see what styles are out there then try to add on to the styles I know. People tend to like familar clothing, it makes them feel safe for some reason." She flipped the pages, "So what sort of suit would you want. This is just general reference."

Misaki nodded some and heistated at the mention of Kozue but she just smiled, "Sure why not, I hope Renju-sempai is feeling okay. I know she was worried about Juku...Juki...a while back when I saw her eating lunch at a diner." She rubbed her arm some, "It's fine really. I'm sure he's just been busy that's all. "It's fine, I've been taking care to keep them sterilized so..." She poked at the backs of her hands. "They don't feel dry. I'm sure it'll be fine."

"Ah..." Maeko nodded, sort of half understanding. Taking comfort in the familiar made enough sense. "Huh. A...normal one, I guess? Not something weird."

"This can be just us if you want." She repeated, half-catching the brief hesitation. "But I think it'd be nice to get to know other people in the group. If we can at least get along with a few people then we can all stick up for each other over there. It might do more to stop the arguing than trying to get everyone to get along at once."

"If you say so, but could you please take it just incase they get itchy. This stuff is supposed to help with that too." Misaki said smiling. "You don't have to use it, just keep it on hand in case you want to.

"Define weird," Misaki laughed and pulled out some photos to show a one peice swim suit that was just held together, the top and the bottome, by a strand of thread, with lots of rinestones. "Something like this, probably not, though sempai might like to see you in that. Um...I should rule out string bikinis and other such things. Maybe a tankini with boys shorts. Definatly a one peice though. I don't think you want the full suits do you with the whole professional swimmers look?"

Misaki nodded, "Yeah I think so. Okay, so Renju-chan and Kozue-chan then. That would be fun, right?"

"Okay..." Maeko didn't seem comfortable with accepting the gloves and cream but she wasn't about to argue anymore.

"That one's weird." Maeko said, nodding. "Ones that aren't normal are weird. What's a tankini? It sounds like a kind of, I dunno, gun or something."

"Okay then! We'll invite them once the holidays start!"

Misaki made a note of that, but she also remembered that the cream had helped her aunts hands.

Misaki nearly fell over laughing at the question and flipped a page, "Here theses are tankinis. They're bathing suits that are two peices. The top is like a tank top, and not just a bra. The bottoms can be either the basic bikini bottom or what they call boy shorts, which are shorts that are actually bathingsuit bottoms."

"Yeah! That'll be fun. Are we going to go swiming at the pool?" Misaki asked.

"Oh, okay. Those seem normal, that's good." She said, nodding.

"Well that seems like a good thing to do in summer, right? Or we could take a trip to a waterpark sometime if you wanted to." Maeko nodded, not wanting to give away Kanaye's plan.

"Hummm so what style do you want, two peice or one peice?" Misaki grinned.

"A water park sounds like fun!" Misaki said excited. "I've never bee to one before!"

"Aren't they the same? Only one has more peices?" Maeko said, displaying her total lack of knowledge.

"I havn't since I was a little kid. I thought it might be a fun thing to do during summer, though."

"Well you see, a one peice is a soild single peice of clothing. Like a gymnastic suit. The two peice is two peices of clothing. Ah...it was namely designed for people who watnted to get tans and such while they were on the beach." Misaki shrugged, or at least that's what she heard. "Basically the idea is that if you don't like showing a lot of skin you wear the one peice, and well if you do, you were a bikini or a tankini. And yes pretty much they are the same in how they are water resistant."

Misaki nodded, "My mother every year insisted on the beach. Honestly any time I go past one now I have to actully try not to get freaked out because of the things that she used to tell me lived in the water there."

"Oh. I guess I'd want the normal kind then. I don't really care about tans and I don't want to show that much skin..."

"Huh? There's fish and stuff in there but I don't think there's anything that would be dangerous until you get so far out that it's dangerous anyway." Maeko shrugged again.

"Hummm then the tankini or the one peice. We can start here, if you see anything you like we can mark it and see if the store carries anything like it." Misaki told her and flipped quickly through the magazine after getting some sticky notes and placing green ones on the pages that had the tankinis and purple on the ones that had one peices. "This way it'll be easy for you to find the swim suits."

She let out a long exaspereated sigh as she explained, "Yes, there are fish, and the more dangerous animals are out farther in the water. But with my mother," She set down the book and picked out ways to explain that wouldn't make Maeko scared to go in the water, "She's a biologist so she would tell us, 'Bactial microscopic organisms dwell in the water that will latch onto your skin the minute you go in. Type of water bugs that swim under water, fungus, various forms of jelly fish, and other organisms that could potentially crawl onto your skin.' Now tell that to a three year old child, and keep telling her that each year you go out to the beach till she's fourteen or so. Over active imagination plus knowing what those things look like thanks to Mother showing them to me when I visted her in the labs...Lets say beach water and me don't normally mix. I try not to think about it but...it still makes my skin crawl."

Maeko nodded, shifting around to sit cross-legged on the bed to see better, still hugging the bear full of 'oh god someone killed themselves today. Someone's life was so horrible that they didn't see any other option.'.

She shrugged, not really all too bothered by this. "'s bacteria everywhere. And bugs everywhere. And fungus everywhere. There might not be jellyfish on land but there's not hornets underwater so that balences out. I don't think it sounds so dangerous as long as you stay where its safe anyway."

Misaki noted this and tried to steer her mind away from the train issue, "Hey you know I was thinking, would you like to go look for new braclets this week? And what's going to happen with the festival for the school?"

Sighing some Misaki nodded, "True, but still, it kinda weirds me out that every time now I get into water that's not in a pool I feel really dirty and I can't stay in too long. I know it seems silly but it's just sort of gross to me."

"The school festival? I'm not sure. I know the drama club are planning something big but..." She shrugged. "I have bracelets now. I have our bracelet and the one Kanaye gave me and some others I bought. I don't think I need more, I only have so much armspace."

"Ah." Maeko tightenned her arms around the bear again, thinking. "I'm pretty sure the cleany stuff in pool'd be worse for you. Bacteria and all that's natural at least."

"Oh, well we could go out looking at some of the shops in town. I was thinking would you like a hair bow, or something?" Misaki smiled. There had to be something that would get her mind off the death.

"Yeah but," Misaki shuddered. "Just gives me the creeps. I like swiming, it's just, when I go to the beach I can't stay in the water too long or else I start to think about things and..." she gave another shudder. "Well enough about that right? We don't want to think about blah things like weird stuff in water."

"Do you think the school will let me help for the festival with Cooking club?"

"I already have a bow." She said, as if there was a strict limit on how many bows she was allowed to possess. She clutched the bear tighter for a few seconds until she was sure that it had absorbed everything bad ever and then loosenned her grip, just holding it instead of squeezing it.

"Okay." Maeko said, shrugging.

"The festival's ages away and food goes off quick. I'm sure they won't be preparing until after summer when you're allowed to do activities again anyway."

"Well how about something different? Isn't there something you've always wanted to wear, Maeko-chan? Maybe we can find a pretty barrett or clip, or hair pin?" Misaki happily suggested and looked at the bear. "Maybe we can find a neck bow for your bear?"

"Yeah, I guess. What are you going to be doing for that? Oh that reminds me, I heard there was going to be an awesome fire works display sometime next week, would you like to go with me? We can eat shaved ice and look at all the people that come to watch?" Misaki asked smiling.

"I don't really need anything. I don't think Rumpelstiltskin does either." Maeko said, not struggling with the pronunciation at all.

"I don't know what 2B is doing yet..." She said, thinking. "I sort of arranged to go see fireworks with Senpai already, sorry..."

"Remp...Rum...How do you pronounce that name again Maeko-chan? And wasn't he a story book character?" Misaki asked curiously and petted the bear on the head. "I'd still like to make something for him for later."

"Oh," her face went down a bit but nodded, "No problem I can probably catch them with someone else right? Or see them by myself."

"Ra-mu-pu-sti-ru-tu-skin" Maeko said, counting off the syllables on her fingers. She nodded. "Yeah. They had to guess his name. I guess they must have has a hard time since it's so long..."
