Who: Maeko, Renju
What: ohai, you okay?
Where: Classroom
When: After class, after party.
Why: CONCERN FOR MIDGETS

Though she trusted the smaller girl enough to consider asking her for help and despite the fact that they were technically teammates it was rare for Maeko to actually approach Renju's desk after school. The last time she had had been a few weeks ago and had been as class rep to ask the student behind her not to look at her answers (a temptation she could undersand. She'd probably have at least considered doing the same thing were she sat anywhere near Renju during midterms. She liked to think that she wouldn't have actually done it, though). He'd proceeded to try looking at Kou's instead.

She gave some thought to asking for clarification on some of the material covered in math today while she was talking to Renju anyway but that seemed impossibly selfish.

"I heard you were involved in that mess last night. Are you okay?" She asked, adjusting her bag strap as she did.

"I'm fine. He didn't do anything to me."

The words were automatic and given no further thought. Just like Renju wasn't giving the matter of Tom any further thought, apart from the need to rescue him. Any observers who noticed that she seemed to be working particularly hard, or seemed particularly withdrawn today, were obviously imagining things.

Obviously.

She was packing up her things to leave for the dorms, and didn't so much as pause to acknowledge Maeko, aside from those few words.

Oh. Well that was comforting to know, at least. If there was any difference in tone, Maeko had failed to catch it.

"That's a relief, I'm glad." Maeko said with a half-forced smile, nodding. Either not quite managing to understand the conversation was over or wanting to pad out the awkward topic with small talk, she changed the subject. "Are you happy with your exam scores? You did very well."

"Fairly. Not as well as I had hoped in English." And that fact brought up thoughts of-- Renju scowled and shoved another notebook into her bag. Just a couple more textbooks and she'd be able to leave this awkward conversation behind.

Maeko was taken aback by the scowl, Renju was intimidating at the best of times. Still, she widenned her smile, tried not to fidget too much and continued.

"You were great in maths, though! I'm glad all your hard work paid off for you!"

"I did a lot of studying, that's all."

That was funny, she thought as she tried to cram the last book in, she was sure she'd been able to fit everything before... She shifted things around a bit, and her hand touched leather. The scowl actually seemed to deepen as she shoved it to a different corner of the bag to make room--or, at least, did her best to do it without looking at it.

Maeko was about at the point where she was ready to back off. And off. And off. Out of the window if need be.

Still, she maintained the smile and tried to come up with a polite way to end the conversation. Running off would be rude.

"Keep it up if you can! Between your results and Oubai-san's and Nawanaka-san's I think 2B have a good shot at highest average exam scores this year!" She said, nodding and picking up her own bag.

"Sorry, I have to go-" Excuse that didn't sound stupid, come on brain... "-Throw something at Retsu-senpai! See you tomorrow!"
