Who: Masami and Misaki
What: Tea
Where: Chagall Cafe's new Iburi location!
When: After school
Why: Because they can

Normally, Masami wouldn't come to a place like Chagall Cafe. She preferred tea to coffee, and she could make her own tea just fine. However, she had heard that due to the popularity of their pheromone coffee, Chagall was offering a new pheromone tea, and curious to see what it was like, Masami decided to stop in and try a cup.

She walked in and ordered her tea, then found a seat in a corner by the front window of the cafe and sat down, sipping slowly. It was a strange blend, and though Masami was able to barely taste a hint of Sencha green tea and some sort of oolong tea(Masami guessed it was Tieguanyin, but she couldn't tell for certain), unfortunately most of these flavors were lost to the overpowering tastes of pu-erh tea and Earl Gray black tea.

For some reason, Masami felt like other people were looking at her. In fact, even though the flavor was somewhat disappointing, she even felt like maybe she were becoming more charming just by drinking the tea. Dismissing the feeling as just her own imagination, however, Masami simply continued to sip the tea in silence, when she noticed someone familiar walk in...

Misaki had never been to a tea shop before. The closest thing she had had to tea on a normal basis was some chai lattes from the coffee store. Investigations into where to take Keiichi on a date had brought her to this small tea cafe. Looking around she noticed Masami there and smiled as she walked over quietly so as not to distrub the other patrons.

"Masami-sempai. I didn't know you come to this shop. I'm really glad to see you. Um...am I bothering you?"

Masami looked up from her tea to see her pink-haired kouhai. She greeted Misaki with a smile.

"Aoi-san, good afternoon. I... don't come to places like this often, but I heard about this pheromone tea so I decided I'd try it out."

Masami directed a slightly puzzled look at Misaki. "I wouldn't say you're bothering me... why would you think that?"

"Oh well sometimes I tend to bug people when I'm with them," Misaki explained. She wrinkled the bottom half of her jacket as she looked down slightly. Masami always had an elegant arua around her so it was natrually a trial to not feel slightly out of place around her. But still Misaki wanted to get to know her more.

"So this is the first time you've come here? Pheromone tea, what is that exactly?" Misaki looked at the seat opposit her and smiled, "May I sit down, or would I be intruding?"

"Feel free to sit down, Aoi-san, it's no bother to me," Masami said with another calm smile before she took another sip of the pheromone tea.

"This is the first time I've come here, since Chagall specializes in coffee, but I prefer tea," Masami explained, "This pheromone tea... well, I think it's a blend of pu-erh, Earl Gray, Sencha, and Tieguanyin, but even for me it's kind of hard to tell. Pu-erh has such a strong earthy flavor that it mostly overpowers everything else but the Earl Gray. They advertise that this tea is supposed to make you more popular or charming or something like that. I'm not really so sure about that part but I figured it might be interesting to try once..."

Masami realized that she had been rambling, and so she bowed her head slightly. "Sorry. I ramble on sometimes about tea. It's probably not that interesting..."

Misaki chuckled some, "No it actually sounds interesting. I've never been one to drink tea before so I wouldn't know where to begin. And don't worry about ramblings. Maeko-chan can ramble on about anpan."

She smiled as she looked over the list of the teas, "So which would you reccomend to someone who's not used to tea, and what are the differences between them? Oh, I wonder if it would be fun to bring some of this to Oubai-sempai. Maybe it will make him actually seem nice at times."

"Akuba-san? ...It must be nice to have a friend like that. All of my old friends are back in Sendai so I don't see them very often..." Masami took a sip of tea.

"Well... green tea is most popular here in Japan. Sencha might be a good place to start. It's kind of... grassy in flavor. Black tea is the favorite in the west, it's generally pretty strong. Pu-erh is a Chinese tea that has a really strong earthy flavor. I think some people say it tastes like wood. Floral teas really depend on the flower. I like chrysanthemum tea a lot, it might be my new favorite. Oh, I also really like oolong tea. That's popular in mainland Asia, mostly China I think. My favorite kind of oolong is a Chinese one called Tieguanyin. It's a really soft tea, kind of like green tea I guess in a way...."

Once again, Masami was rambling, and she cut herself off. "Umm... well for a beginner I guess just try Sencha?"

"...Oubai-san...?" something was obviously different about Masami's tone, but it was hard to place, as if she herself wasn't entirely sure what she thought of Kou. "Well... he's kind of... hostile... I think."

"Well if you would like, I'd like to get the chance to know you better. We could hang out some time," Misaki offered and looked at her curiously, "Whats Sendai like?"

Misaki took out her smaller sketck book and started noting things down as she listened to Masami. "Sencha, okay then that's what I'll try for a start."

The pink haired girl gave a nod, "He's...very hard to understand I think. A lot of his problem stems from his dad. He seemed very strict and well, not all okay with who Oubai-sempai hangs around with. I know he got into trouble because he came to help the others help me. So I feel a bit bad about that."

Masami smiled. "That might be nice. Thanks, Aoi-san."

"Sendai is..." Masami began, looking up and to the side as she recalled things. "Well... it's really pretty. There are a lot of trees there, and it's quieter than most other cities its size, I think. I like it there, though..." She trailed off, as if she had thought of something unpleasant.

"Well... whatever his reasons, I don't think he should be as hostile as he is. It's like he takes things out on others..."

"It sounds amazing, Nayuki-sempai was telling me about Nagano earlier. I think I'd like to visit such a place when I had the money to. Are you going back there for the summer?" Misaki aksed then noticed her reaction as if thinking of something.

"Are you okay sempai? You looked like you were remembering something," Misaki asked kindly. She tilted her head some and pondered, "I think a lot of that comes from the fact that he doesn't know what to make of everything. He seems the sort that wants things in order, or something. I wish we could make him feel better."

"I might go back for part of the summer just to see my friends there..." Masami said before she took another sip of her tea. "I'm just remembering things from Sendai. Don't worry about me,' she added with another smile, though it probably looked a little forced. How did Toshimi smile all the time?

"He did strike me as the kind of person who was really attached to normalcy. I still don't really know though..."

"Are you sure? If you want I can come with you. That way you have someone there for you, you know...and you can have an excuse to avoid situtations that you don't want," Misaki said cheerfully. "What are your other friends like?"

"He's...different. What I want to know is what is up with this whole situation. It's just baffleing to me," Misaki sighed, "First Keito-san, then Oubai-sempai, then Toru-kun, then Kiriko-chan, then Amori-sensei, then Maeko-chan, then Me...I mean the only thing I think we all have in common was the anti-bully club, but there has to be something else right?"

"Actually not many. My family goes on a trip every year but this year I'm skipping it. I want to spend time getting to know people better. I think the only things I'm planning on doing are hanging out with Keiikun, and probably the other girls as per what they want to do, and um...going on a small trip with Maeko as a suprise to her. But other then that I'm free. So I would be happy to take a trip with you, or go for a day or two to see you there if you want." Misaki explained to her as the tea came and she blew on it softly.

"It smells really good..." she sipped and bit her lip, "and hot. Ouch."

Setting it down Misaki paused, "Well I want to know what you think of it."

I don't even think the anti-bullying club is a consistent link, since I didn't know Aomori-sensei was ever involved in it... and I also don't know if Sato-san was a member. If it weren't for those two..." Masami trailed off for a bit, apparently trying to run what she knew through her head.

"Either way, I kinda feel like the people in the group don't take the situation seriously enough..."

"I don't know what kind of relationship he had with Ishino-sensei... but yeah, I liked Aomori-sensei. You know, last year after nationals he treated the kendo team to the most expensive sushi restaurant in Tokyo to celebrate. It was really nice of him..." A sad look crossed over Masami's face, but she quickly hid it by taking another sip of tea.

Masami decided to try to change the subject quickly, before things got too depressing. "So umm... thanks for coming to cheer for us at the prefecturals, Aoi-san. I heard you got in trouble again because of it..."

"Although I have to wonder if anyone thought it was weird for us to wear such clothing. I mean we weren't even matching. Thankfully I'm almost done with the unifoms so..."

Misaki giggled some and grinned, "I like spending time with you Masami. It's hard sometimes with Kozue and Yoshimi, and toshi. And Emi's so young..."

Shrugging her shoulders lightly Misaki ran her finger around the cup. "I don't know. Just that sometimes I think she regreats doing that and I worry that she'll wind up asking him to stop dating me and start going out with her again. I like her a lot, I'm just...she's a lot pettier then me and more experinced in dating and I'm...just...well..."

At this Masami's mood seemed to turn sour and she muttered something not-quite-audible before taking another long sip of tea. When she lowered the cup, any trace of the bad mood was gone, replaced with Masami's usual calm expression.

"In the west it's popular to add milk to black tea but I don't think you should add it to any other kind."

Misaki had always been quick to pick up moods, it came with dealing with a family where the slightest motion, inflection, or twich of the brow indicated a feeling. She tapped her spoon lightly with a nail and looked down, "S-sorry about making you uncomfortable for a moment there Masami-sempai. I just...you're so smart and pretty and really strong and clever. I envey you a bit."

"Oh? So...how would you sweeten it some?" Misaki inquired seriously.

"...I wasn't uncomfortable, just..." Masami tried to being saying. "I'm not really anything special... but thanks anyway Aoi-san."

"Well, I like my tea as-is, so I don't sweeten it normally. But you can just use ordinary sugar for sweetening if you want. It might help you get used to the flavor."

"Not special," Misaki had to laugh at this and smiled sweetly at Masami. "Are you serious? Of course you're something special! Sempai, you have a skill that a lot of women wish that they could have. You have a courage that I'm jealous of. When things are crazy, you manage to seem so sure, even if you probably aren't. Like in Maeko-chan's dungen, and then when we went back into mine. I was so annoyed when I couldn't talk, but you used that to your advantage. And you're also quiet pretty. I don't see why any guy shouldn't be honored to go out with you. You're more of a lady then most of the girls here, so please don't get down on yourself."

Misaki nodded and put a little in there, "Like this?"

"Yeah, that's fine. Don't add too much sugar though, or it'll overpower the taste of the tea," Masami explained, "Oh, but I heard in some places in the west it's really popular to add lots of sugar to tea. I've never tried it though, I like tea as is anyway..."

"I'm not really down on myself, but... well I guess it seems like lots of people are getting into relationships lately. Akuba-san and Satou-senpai, you and Keiichi-san, and even Tachibana-san and Shirou-kun..."

More then I used to." She waved her hand, "As for Keiichi and me, we're happy, I guess...and I don't know about Yoshi-chan and Shirou-kun. I know my little brother liked her for a while. He gives you a lot of respect though."

Misaki sat back, "Being in a relationship is complicated I guess. It's not something I would think would be something that could be obtained easily. Or it's not something that should be just managed you know."

She stopped putting suger in and sipped, "Now it's a bit better. I hear there's some weird foamy teas and such too."

I think it was really cool how he took that spell for her that one time in Paradise... it was like something from a shoujo manga. You know, the cool guy says something like 'I'll protect you!' to the girl, then he really does jump in to save her when she needs it. I kinda wish I had someone who'd do that for me..." Masami said, looking down at her tea again.

You're an amazing girl Masami-sempai. You're so brave! You looked way cooler then he did taking on that thread."

I mean, most people in the school are kind of afraid of Yamaguchi-senpai for some reason. She's kind of weird sometimes, but..." Masami said, leaning back in her seat and thinking for a second.

"You're smart too! You have to be smart to stratagize the way you do in Kendo, and you are a leader. You took charge when we fought the boss in my dungeon. You do more then you have to. If I can say I would trust anyone as a leader you would be in my top three!" Misaki said cheerfully.

"Well, Yamaguchi-senpai can be really... well overbearing I guess. She's the kind of person that you just know is in charge. Also, there are a lot of rumors about her being some sort of diabolical genius who'll take revenge on you for the slightest thing. I've heard something about an exploding oven incident and a pit trap incident, both from the year before we started attending Nanakamado," Massami explained.

"Well, thanks for the vote of confidence, but as far as strategizing goes it's really just... well knowing what to do when certain situations come up and I can only do it during a fight. I can't think of plans for how we should try to figure out what's going on behind all this..."

"I haven't met her enough to know about her, but Suzume-neechan seems very optimistic about her. And that's just silly. Why would anyone want to do that? But I guess there could be people like that in the world, but I tend to think that everyone has a good side. Or at least most people want to have a good side. They just don't know how to tap into that side of them." Misaki said and blinked, "Exploding oven? Really? What happened? I hope no one was hurt."

"I know what you mean," Misaki sighed and pulled out her new sketch book showing Masami what she had drawn out. "See, I've been trying to keep track of everything that happened when the person disappered. And so far the pattern is really weird. There's not much tying things together and that's what's boggling my mind. I guess reading so many mystery and fantasy books made me think that maybe this thing was solvable."

"Well, the exploding oven is exactly what it sounds like. Someone in the cooking club was making something and suddenly the oven... I think exploded or at least caught fire. I heard that person suffered some burns, not life-threateningly serious but they had to go to the hospital. And the pit trap incident involved an entire, full-size pit trap being dug in the school's track, which someone fell into. I heard they had some real trouble getting the person out because they broke a leg when they fell in," explained Masami as she sipped her tea, "People seem to connect it to Yamaguchi-senpai because both people had apparently got on her bad side somehow not long before the incidents."

Masami looked through the book, trying to draw any connections. "I really don't know... It almost seems like it has to do with targeting the anti-bullying club but neither Sato Kei or Aomori-sensei fit..."

"Oh wow, I better not make her upset then. But that doesn't mean that she did it. I made Suzume-niichan hurt, but I didn't do it on purpose. And the ovens are old, I suppose there's a chance that they really do need to be replaced, we've had them, I've heard, since before Hikaru-niisan went to school here, and maybe before even that." Misaki said with a nod. "I'm sure it's a case of mistakes being made."

She sighed, "I know, but any time I try to bring it up, people think I'm wrong, or I can't seem to figure it out. It's really frustrating that Satou-sempai doesn't take it as seriously as he should. Even I know that there's a chance that someone can get really hurt in there by a shadow."

"I think that most of the team doesn't take this Paradise business as seriously as they should..." Masami says, "Not just Satou-senpai."

She tapped the edge of the tea cup with her finger and nodded, "I've noticed that. We don't work like a team and I don't think people are seriously considering...well what if this person who's doing this is seeing us as a threat? What if they decide to go after our families. That...that idea scares me a lot. I try not to think of it, but if any thing were to ever happen to Tomako...I adore my younger brother Masami-sempai...I don't know what I would do if someone were to hurt him because of me."

"Oh? Well then when you finish your tea, we can go looking at fabrics and such and I can help you learn. I'm...pretty good, I still have a lot to learn really." Misaki blushed happily. She was proud of her skills but not so proud that she didn't know she had a lot to learn.

"She's... well interesting at the least. She's sort of knowledgeable about tea, but she says that I'm better than she is. If you ever want to, stop by the tea club, though she does put people who actually want to join through a... really tough test," said Masami.

"Sometimes it's... well honestly a little annoying to me how fractured the team is. Can't people just get over themselves and look at the bigger picture...?" She finished the last of her tea to hide an irritated expression.

"Really? Thanks, Aoi-san! Let's go then!"

Misaki nodded slowly and smiled, "Sure I'll stop by, I...I have a feeling I wouldn't do to well with the test. I can use tea in recipes but when it comes to like knowing what kind there are, well," She laughed brightly, "As you saw I'm not very knowing."

"Yeah, that's something that I wish could happen too," she blushed some and sighed, "That's what I was trying to do with the PA but...I sort of screwed up badly with that. I wish there was like some way we could learn to work together without putting our lives in danger. Like...like one of those course things where you do all these tests and stuff, climbing and going through a bunch of barrels...that sort of thing. Maybe then..."

Misaki nodded cheerfully, "Right. I'll get the bill okay. This is going to be a lot of fun. What would you want to learn how to sew first Masami-sempai?"

"I might be able to convince Yamaguchi-senpai to drop the test for you, but I don't know. She's pretty adamant about it..." suggested Masami.

"Well... I guess you had the right idea, but... anyway, I'm not sure myself," Masami said with a sigh, "The problem is that we have too many people who just don't really care... like Satou-san, who seems to go only for fun, or Shirai-san... I don't even know why he bothers going honestly."

"Oh, don't worry Aoi-san, I already paid for mine. I think I'd really like to learn to sew kimono..."

"That's okay Sempai. I can't do any clubs until after summer. I got in trouble remember. I can't even help Keiikun right now," Misaki explained, a slight hint of sadness slipped into her tone, but she quickly replaced it with a more chipper attitude next.

"It's funny, I went over to his house once, he...he has this neighbor you see. A little boy, he sees him as his brother and he's really sweet and stuff. And Reizo-san acts really brotherly towards him, and he keeps his place spotless," Misaki explained holding off on the fact that he had cookies and such in his home. "Besides that fact, I think he does care, he's just trying to play off being more tough then he has to be. I'm not sure about Sempai though, I think the only thing he cares about is Maeko chan, if she wasn't there or Toru-kun, I don't think he would care at all."

Misaki grinned, "Okay then. Humm, a Kimono huh? I know of a store that sells pre cut peices that would be easier to work with. Would you like to try there first?"

Masami noticed Misaki's moment of sadness. "Ito-san? What does he need help with? Is something bothering you?" she asked.

"Really? I can't imagine Shirai-san acting like that at all," Masami said, "Well, I guess he's been a little better recently, but still... I feel like he's the kind of person who's hostile just for the sake of it."

"Sure, we can try that. It would be good for a beginner, right?"

"It's nothing really, just that he's been busy a lot with the club, and normally I help him with it so it's less of a chore to do. But seeing as I can't he's been extra busy so not much time to hang out and do things," Misaki said walking with Masami after she paid for the drink and the two headed out the door.

"Well he did, but please don't go telling anyone. He probaly would be pretty pissed at me about it," she said and Misaki thought a bit, "I don't know...I don't think that's always the case though. Some of it I think might stem from his family and all."

Misaki nodded, "Yes, and they have the thread and everything there too, and there are a lot of different types of fabrics. Hummm, You know I can lend you my extra dressing dummy, that way you can have something to pin the peices on."
